Becker coating question...advice needed.

I recently acquired a "broken-in" C/U 7 from a forum member. A significant amount of the blade coating has worn off. Since it is a high carbon steel blade, should I be concerned with rust? I don't want to have to worry about "maintaining" the blade. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about alternative blade coatings (boron carbide, namely), but haven't decided on it. Heck , maybe a coat of Krylon BBQ paint will suffice! ;) FWIW, this will continue to be a user knife, so I'm not at all concered with its appearance.

Any advice???

I got a USER Brute (Camillus) from another forum.
The guy had removed ALL of the coating (Except under the handle).
I oil it when I sharpen it...No problems!
I doubt you will ever have a problem with it.

If the coating has been worn off, any exposed steel will be subject to rust. If looks are of no concern, then why not try krylon? Not sure about boron carbide so I won't comment on it. At any rate, bare carbon steel will rust.

Atrick-Pay,

I know what you mean! These knives are bombproof!!! This C/U 7 is my fourth Becker. Becker #5, a BK9, will be here shortly.

CherylR,

Can you tell me more about the epoxy finish used on the Becker line? Will Camillus reapply coating (for a nominal fee, perhaps)? So far, I have been very impressed with the coating. I can only imagine what this guy was doing with this C/U 7 to get it looking like that!
