I like the looks of the Becker Companion but the handle looks sort of big and bulky. I also appears that it could become slippery if wet, especially with sweat or blood. Am I wrong about this?

Also, anyone know a place to get G-10 scales for this knife?

Regards

The contour of the handle makes slippage harder than it would appear to be. It is slick but well contoured, and it is big, but it fits my hands well (I have slightly larger than normal hands). I love the knife...its takes plenty of abuse and comes back for more. As far as G-10 scales, I haven't a clue, but you can order a nice set of micarta scales directly from Camillus for 27 bucks...they are slimmer than the factory plastic ones and are grippier. I found that I had to get some longer hex head screws to install them since the ones for the stock slabs were only able to engauge the first two threads in the nuts when used for the micarta slabs...a trip to lowes or home depot will cure that nicely though.

all the beckers hve that look. I remember in a very old thread someone performing a hard stab into wood and their hand slipping straight down the handle and onto the edge. The result was ugly. The thread is now gone after Spark consolidated this sites memory or whatever.

Can anyone give specifics on the micarta scales that you can get from Camillus? As much as I've heard this, I haven't been able to locate them.

I don't have any info. about the micarta but i do own two beckers. The bk9 i have literally beat the snout of it. Chopping, digging, throwing, batoning, prying and whatever else you can think of. I have never had a problem with the stock handles and my hands are not very large. :)

You have to call camillus to order them, around $20. Of course, you need to wait until the strike is over.

I am given to understand that they are still making knives (the management or non union labor depending on who you talk to), and manning the phones. Call and try...it's all you can do.

They had a new sheath on my doorstep in a couple of days after I contacted them last week.. no charge, and I admitted that I wasn't sure if I busted it, or if it arrived with a cracked insert. Seems like they're able to function to some degree regardless of whatever their situation is.
