In the long tradition of pretending we know better than Ka-Bar/Ethan what they/he should make... :D

Inspired by the "New Becker designs ? Ideas ?" thread, I just had to mock up a quick rendering of what a Bladesports reg Becker Comp Chopper would look like. Tricky part is figuring out where to put the forward lanyard hole without altering the handles, which would defeat the purpose of having a Becker competition blade in the first place!

Obviously, this would be an "entry-level" Bladesports knife. Won't be replacing the $1000 customs that the big guys compete with, but it could be affordable enough for you or me to compete in a Cut. Would probably have to keep the primary grind a little more obtuse than the supersteely blades for toughness. I figure 1/4" 1095CV... would probably run somewhere between $150-175 hopefully and would make a good camp knife to boot. I'd buy one!

Stepping on Warrior's toes a little with this one. [emoji12]

I like it. A lot. Slightly canted handle. Good stuff. I would love it if it had a little more "tip" to it. Make it just a tad more aggressive looking.

I would only be concerned because of the lanyard hole you put in front if the handle. It's a high stress portion if the blade while chopping
Maybe you could add a bk9 type top ramp and put the hole through there ?

Hah...that's friggin sweet! Imagine the mods that could be done with all that steel! A cleaver could be had with steel to spare for a second sort of something.

Make it 4 sold!

The blade can only be two inches high max per the regulations is the trouble with that

Kabar already works with D2 they might be able to do one in that, and some of the Snoddy knives come in cpm 3v I think.
I would say do away with the hole and maybe raise the grind and that bad boy would do alright. My 2 cents may or may not be worth canadian though....lol

For the knife to be legal for competition in Bladesports it needs to have the forward hole. Although, after re-reading the rules this morning it looks like the hole needs to be behind the plunge line. Moving the plunge line forward a little bit would allow the hole to be moved downward. I'll mock it up when I get back to my copy of Photoshop.

To tell you the truth I don't care that the design is blade sport legal.
It looks like a he k of a chopper and I want one
Or two !

Could you not cook up some sort of modified Chicago type screw that was hollow to replace the front slab bolt with a hollow and allow a lanyard to be run thru it without weakening the blade at a critical juncture?.... if used as a chopper everyone will be choked way back anyway leaving your hand clear of that first bolt hole anyway....and if not chopping hard then you don't need the lanyard right?

I'd be in for one, though I too would like to see just a touch more sweep back on the front end giving you a bit more point up front.... Lots of field and yard work applications for such a knife, but realistically, I don't see anyone using a non custom in a cutting competition... you don't drive a stock chevy in a race, if you can't afford the racecar then you are a spectator......

the ONLY way I could see it being a " race knife for the masses " is if like some shooting sports, they have 2 divisions..... Modified and Stock Production. but then you would be disallowed from altering the edge grind to suit ya and you'd have 20 guys all with the same knife or two showing up and turning in almost matching times and results....

Far better IMHO to modify the front with a bit more Seax style point and sell it as a " Race Knife Inspired Chopper/Large Utility Knife " to the masses....it wouldn't need much... keep front lower point the same but angle it back so that the top point moves back about an inch.... just enough to give you a working tip for camp tasks

The question is: how often do people participate in a sactionned blade sport match...
Pretty much never
How often do people use achopper to cut stuff in camping
All the time

Your design for the Becker Cleaver is excellent !
I hope the kbar people show interest
