I'm trying to decide on a new fixed blade for general outdoors, camping and woods use. I like the Becker Crewman and have been reading good things, but I can't decide if it is over the top for ordinary use.

I currently have a Grohmann/D.H. Russell #1 and an old Ontario USAF knife, neither of which I really like much. I thought the Crewman might be able to replace both of these, since it is reputedly rugged and also a sharp slicer.

The other contender right now is the Cold Steel Master Hunter.

crewman all the way.
she is big but able to cope with small jobs aswell, very well designed

go with the becker i have carrried one for 8months now as my fixed blade edc and use it all the time for cutting prying slicing and it has worked great for me the only thing i have had to do is sharpen it a couple time a month so it should be ok for the use you want it for.

I ordered a Crewman yesterday. From what I've read, it will do eveything my Ontario USAF knife can do, AND everything my Grohmann #1 can do. I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
