Well guys I'm not too familiar with the Becker line of knives from ka-bar. So I've decided to get one. I've found two that shut my needs but which one? I'm guessing the companion would be better for out door Busch craft/ all around use because of the drop point. The only difference I saw in the two is clip point and drop point. Is there anything else I'm not taking into consideration?

The BK2 is 1/4" thick, weighs a pound and is devoid of a thumb ramp. The BK10 is 3/16" thick, weighs less, has a thumb ramp, and is easier to use with traditional sharpeners.

The BK2 also comes with a glass filled nylon sheath, while the BK10 uses a polyester sheath.

But you can get the BK22 (the Companion) with the polyester sheath. The BK22 is the same knife as the BK2, but with a different sheath. I much prefer the BK22 to the BK2 for that reason. I have both sheaths and find the glass filled nylon sheath difficult to use.

[Edit: But my favorite Becker is the BK7.]

I have the BK-2 and frankly I don't use it much. It is simply too heavy for my tastes. I don't usually brutalize knives, but if you beat on them or feel you might need to cut your way out of a car, the BK-2 is the one for you. I have the BK-7 and like it a lot. Also have the BK-16 which I prefer to almost all of them so far. I just don't have much practical need for really heavy duty knives.

Actually the BK22 is just the BK2 in a nylon sheath like the BK10

Ok so the BK2 campanion is .25" thick (1/4") while the BK10 crewman is .188" (3/16th") thick. That is the most significant difference between the two. Since all of the becker knives have a full exposed tang the BK2 handle will also be thicker. Since the BK10 is thinner it'll cut better for the most part, but maybe not a huge difference. The BK10 will be tough to break but the BK2 will be nigh impossible. So if you were ever in a worse case scenario you could really abuse the knife and all but know that it will not break. Though if you can break a BK10 short of clamping it in a vice and prying on it with a cheater bar I would be surprised.

There is a Becker subforum so feel free to search over there some. I'm certain you'll be able to find some threads there comparing the two. All of them are really awesome and Ethan Becker the designer pops in there from time to time.

For my uses, so do I. But I've seen the mod work done by The Warrior to his BK2 GFN sheath, so bonus points to that.

I haven't, but I'll look him up and see what he did. Having both sheaths, modding the GFN might make for a nice project. If I screw it up, eh, I've still got the polyester sheath. :)

you can round the clip on the BK10.
the BK12 - is a longer & pointier blade (AKA Ritter Perseverance Mk 2)

but the best "bushcraft" blade in the BK&T array is IMHO the BK16.

Both are great knives.
Just get both!:D
By the way the BK2 & BK10 both fit nicely in a short Spec Ops sheath.
