I saw one yesterday. It was sad. Was burning up some down time at Gander Mountain and looking at their knife selection. Very "consumer" based crap...Bear Grylls, Les Stroud crap. I DID find one Becker...a Remora. I thought about getting it, but something didn't look right. First off, the package was taped together, so it was a return. Then I noticed it...

Some asshole bought the remora, and went home and OBVIOUSLY tried to get it sharp in a Work Sharp. In the process, they took off 20-25% of the frickin' blade! The belly of the knife was completely gone. Then they returned it, and the employee not having any Becker knowledge, accepted it and put it back on the shelf.

I took it to a guy behind the counter and showed him the difference on my Droid and he took it so nobody would buy it.

That's just shitty...first off, murdering a poor Becker like that, and second, returning it so that some poor unsuspecting consumer buys the knife you effed up.

This isn't Becker related but it is about knife abuse. I have a buddy who isn't a knife guy but still carries a knife, a Kershaw Chive. He got this thing a couple years ago, then I moved away, went back on vacation and was visiting him and he pulls out the Chive. At some point he snapped off almost 1/4" off the tip trying to turn a screw and there was only one screw holding the pocket clip on and it was loose. I scolded him and told him Kershaw would replace the blade a screws for not much but he said he liked the snapped tip and the loose clip because they were good for turning screws. I almost smacked him.

What do you mean "almost smacked him" ~~ don't you mean almost "knocked his Clock off.?" I think to destroy such a thing should be a 'Felony' ~~ don't you.!**** LOL

What is is with Chives that make idiots turn them into screwdrivers ? I work with one numbskull and he has the same problem, a broken tip from prying with it. I wont help him get a another knife to break, he's on his on. This could take us into the whole subject of abusing knives to "test" them, but I will leave that one alone.

My Beckers love my Worksharp! Becker and Worksharp, visualize the possibilities!

It does magic on the big Beckers. But on smallish blades, it takes off too much material and kills the point. I'm guessing thats what happened...he tried to reshape it then wan't happy and returned it.

I kninda buggered up one of my BK14's when I first got my worksharp. Not bad like what you describe on the 13 you saw, totally salvageable. Worksharp does require a little skill though.

I f-Ed up the tip on my bk2 when the worksharp was new. So I call that a learning Experience, and an excuse to go out and get a belt sander. I should have practiced on my chive before wounding the beast.

I used the WS on my 13 and it turned out perfect. The trick to sharpening little tiny knives on the WS is to remove the guide and use light pressure to sharpen the blade. SAKs, Old Timers, etc., all sharpen up just fine this way.
