I don't have a CU7 but other Beckers. They are extremely sturdy knives.

I suggest you use the search function and query BK7. You'll get more info than you know what to do with :D

The BK7 is a stout knife but still presents a significantly thinner edge than something like a Camp Tramp. I think it reflects a perfect balance between all around cutting ability and strength. In fact - having sand blasted the scales for better grip it really is a near perfect knife.

The BK10 Crewman would also be a good choice. Imagine a USAF pilot's knife, but with a shaving sharp edge out of the box, a decent handle, and the useless saw teeth deleted.

Mine arrived a couple of days ago and I've used it out in the yard to cut branches off a blown down pine tree, and to cut up some of that awful, yellow polypro. rope. Even though it is shorter than the other Beckers, it still chops decently in addition to slicing well. It is also short enough for finer work, which might be awkward with the longer blades. Of the Beckers, I think the Crewman would be the best compromise for camping purposes due to its size.

A week after I got my BK7 I was off to the Boundary Waters in N. MN and Canada. Spent a week spliting fire wood, made one shelter, and tons of other playing with it. And believe it or not, I filet some walleye and small mouth bass with it. The blade is stout enough to take a beating, but sharp and thin enough to filet fish, it's just an all around awesome knife.

I could not agree more.

Camillus really hit the nail on the head with BK7. It's got a thin edge at 59RC. It's a great chopper and slicer. I've chopped and split ton of wood with mine, this thing still slices paper. Can't ask for anything more.
