hey guys new guy here from australia and most definately in love with becker knives!!

so ill cut straight to my question im in need of a few blades for my survival and general outdoors pack
now i want to get either a bk16 and bk 14 or a bk2 and a bk14.

what do u guys think will serve a purpose better i have a hatchet but i have very little skill in using it and usually baton my firewood so i guess i may need the bk2 to help power through the timber and i will be using the bk14 as more a secondary knife.

will this combo be the best for me, and im not keen on dragging a bk9 around with me atm but i will get one in the near future

thanks for your help guys :D.

If you intend to baton you definitely need a 2 not a 16. I've owned both and the 2 is much tougher. As for your choice of the 14 as your second, great choice. I've been carrying mine almost every day for over two months. I bet you end up using the 14 at least twice as often as the 2.

The bk2 plus the 14 is a great combo.

My favorete combo is BK9 with BK14. The 14 can do all the fine detailed work and the 9 will be the bronz chopping and batonning. The 9 is also better for self defense plus it's lighter than the BK2, but don't get me wrong the Campanion is an amazing blade!

Go for the 2 and 14, both are good knives and the 2 batons better than the 16. Have you thought about the 7? It might be thinner but the extra length allows you to baton through larger logs.

The BK-14 makes an excellent 'always with me' small fixed blade, especially with with the new Ka-Bar handle scales (I like the orange ones).

The BK-2 isn't my favorite Becker blade but I guess if you gotta' have something to whack through wood the BK-2 will fit your needs just fine.

The 2 & the 14 were my first two Beckers, & they are a great team in my opinion. However, replacing the 14 with any of the new "Minis" (I still want to call them Tweeners, haha!) might result in a great combo as well! The 15 in particular seems a great choice as it & the 2 seem to excell at opposite things in many ways. No matter what with one big & one small(er) Becker, you can't lose!

Great combo. You will like it. The 2 is my go-to knife when i get the others stuck in a knot. I baton it point first, directly into the knot, by using the extended tang.

I think the BK9 & BK16 would also make a great combo. :D

Thanks for the replys guys I think I'll be going with the 2 and the 14 I will be getting a 9 soon too and I'll make the ultimate decision but I will start with the two :) got me exited too lol I can get the two blades for 150 australian ATM

if you want a little extra length but no extra weight, you might consider the BK7 over the BK2.
on the subject of the 14 vs the 16 -- the 16 has a better handle for long use, but the 14 drops in a front pocket for easy carry.
these are my 2 favorites in the Becker lineup but they have a lot of overlap in function.

Yeah there's not too much difference in ability between the 16 and the 14, the testing I've done so far (just got a 16 and I've had the 14 for a while) theres not much the 16 can do that the 14 can't (it has about 3/4 of an inch more blade length so a bit better for battoning thicker pieces of wood) they're ground the same, the same blade height, and the same thicknes; I'd go with a bigger knife and a 14 for sure. Don't get me wrong the 16 is great but either way you need a larger knife to go along with the 14 or 16 and the 14's a heck of a lot cheaper.
