Becker Eskabar or ESEE Izula?

Hey guys, new forumite here...

I was just wondering if I could receive some feedback on the Becker Eskabar and the Izula?
I hear they're both AMAZING neck knives, and I was just wondering what some of your opinions would be.

A big deciding factor for me would be the ability to safely carry it around my neck. (I find this the easiest and most functional place to carry my smaller knives)

I love the width of the blade on the Eskabar, but I'm not sure if maybe it is a tad too long?
I also love the Izula! (ESEE's amazing reputation, and guarantees)

Any help would be much appreciated guys.

Both of them will carry very well, and I think you'll really like either one. It might help if you told us what you were planning on doing with said knife, and what might make it too long.

You might also look into the Bark River Bravo Necker or Bravo Necker 2. I find it cuts much better than the ESKABAR will (I have the BK11, which has the same blade, but the bottle-opener handle), and its the best cutter I have for a small EDC fixed blade. The IZULA is also really nice, got to handle one, but it doesn't cut as well as either of the other in my experience due to the coating. Other than that, it's a great little blade, although too small for my tastes.

I'd probably give the edge to the IZULA of the two you mentioned because, if the ESKABAR sheath is anything like the one for the BK11, which it looks like it is, the retention is pretty bad, and if you're going to carry around your neck, you might have some issues.

Between the two, Izula. The Eskabar, despite having the same handle as the Izula, is far closer in size to the ESEE-3 then the Izula, so it's more of a full sized knife with the handle of a necker.

Of course I'll probably end up with an Eskabar eventually, but I don't think it will knock my Izula out of EDC rotation.

Thanks guys, I'm just learning the ropes and stuff here.

I LOVE Ka-bar.... I own a standard USMC fighting knife and the Becker BK2, and I love them both.

I want the neck knife for basic EDC (I work in a gun shop, and I'm always looking for something to cut zip ties and open packages)
I also camp a LOT. I want a smaller knife for minute camp chores etc...

I have had good experience with Ka-bar, but man! I hear ESEE makes wonderful knives!
I had just heard some negative things about the ESKABAR's sheath. :grumpy:
(Having a knife fall out of it's sheath whilst around ones neck is a harrowing experience)

i think both are good. do you want more blade? get the eskabar. do you want better fit and finish with a sheath that wont dull the edge? izula.

Thank you very much Gundude! I like what I hear about ESEE, but I've never owned one.
A little off topic here... Is the ESEE 5 a good buy? Will it compare to my BK2?

i've tried the ESEE5 and own a BK2. i think if you replace the sheath and handles on the 2 it is a dead heat with the 5. but stock, the 5 is better IMO.

I still think you might want to consider the Bravo Necker. Handle is uncomfortable without wrapping, but cord wrapped or with the handle kit, it's a VERY good knife. Great cutter, and the sheath has very good retention. I'm carrying mine right now! BK11 is still undergoing modifications.

to me the Izula looks like a baby knife compared to the Eskabar. Maybe for smaller people or women the Izula makes more sense but I much prefer the Eskabar...

the Izula will carry a LOT more comfortably as a necker -- overall smaller & lighter, and the sheath is significantly smaller.
OTOH, when I'm wearing carpenter pants, the Eskabar fits perfect in the side tool pocket for quick access. Sheath is just wide enough to stay put.

Thank you all for your help.
I'm beginning to dislike Falcon for throwing the Bravo Necker in the works here.
My mind is so conflicted.
*sighs*

All three are affordable, just buy them all since you'll end up owning them all anyways.

I own both. For neck carry the izula hands down. Smaller better fitting sheath. For pocket carry about equal unless you wear super tight pants with tiny pockets. Then the izula would work better. For belt carry, about equal.....I lean towards the izula as I highly dislike the crappy bk11/eskabar sheath. It let's the knife wobble around to much for my taste. Of course ymmv.

That said I find both cut very well. I cant give an advantage to either over the other.

I wish the izula 2 had a larger blade as well as the larger handle, but the original izula handle isn't so small it's awkward unless you got banana hands.

I laughed so hard when I read "Banana hands"
I'm sorry, but....What....on...earth... are banana hands? XD

Stolen from some crap jack black movie my wife made me watch with her , that sums up big hands with huge fingers well. Just huge hands and fat thick large fingers like a bunch of bananas.

I love the Izula. It comes very sharp out of the box, even grind on both sides. It is better value compares to the Eskabar once you take into account replacing their 'knife dulling' sheath. The Izula carries light around the neck and will sit quite well in pocket too. If money is no object and you like a bigger neck knife, get the Eskabar, sharpened it, give it a new kydex sheath; call yourself a happy man. :D

And I decided on getting the ESEE 4.
