bladefan,
Sorry, no more news. We are firming up some of the sheath specs now, and hopefully I'll have some new info in a few weeks. Remember, this item probally won't be unvieled until BLADESHOW[June].
This is very exciting. I was actually considering having a custom version of the BK9 made with a wonder steel like 3V or S30V and Micarta grips. It will be a long but worth while wait for these!
I'm new to the Camillus board and I don't know anything about the Becker Extreme. I couldn't find anything when I did a search. Could someone give me some background?
AF,
The Extremes are going to be versions of the standard Becker line with S30V blades and micarta handles. I don't know if absolutely every model will have an extreme counterpart, but I think the BK7 and BK9 have been confirmed. You couldn't find any info because it was lost in one of the recent Bladeforums crashes.
Thanks for the info t1mpani. That line sounds like it will be awesome. I hope they can keep the price under control. I don't own a Becker but they seem like a really great value.
Guys,
We are currently firming up exactly what models to do the EXTREME versions of......one model for sure is the BK7. Most likely the BK9 and the BK10.
As much as I would PERSONALLY like a BK5, it ain't gonna happen. Sales were WAY to slow on the original model for us to invest in the EXTREME version at this point.
Mr Fennell,
Very disappointing to hear you reached that decision. Would this position be revised in the future? Will the Necker be included? Are you planning models exclusive to the Extreme line not currently found in the Becker line?
I think the decision makes perfect sense. Camillus is in the business to sell knives. They have to go with the trends. If sales on the BK-5 are slow it wouldn't make sense to offer an upgrade that likely also wouldn't sell well.
I have a becker necker and love it! If you guys made a high quality stainless version I'd buy one in a second! All the benefits of the original with easier maintenence. It's served me well as a EDC and an impromtu hunting knife. JMO.
Out of all the becker lines, I was enticed by the bk-1, bk-7&9, but bought one of the bk-5's when they were going out, but was not impressed...until i held the new bk-5 in my hand...
I now have to add that ...in my humble opinion, its THE blade to do an ecxtreme version of.
I agree with you whole heartedly River, however, Camillus is a business and they have to do bean counting in order to stay in business. I'm getting used to being the odd bean out with the desire for a 4" Maxx, a BK-5 Extreme, a spear shaped Maxx (not dagger), etc., etc., etc.... Sometimes I'm amazed that what I find useful and desirable isn't more popular, as I think I'm a pretty knowledgeable user, but hey, obviously we are the few, the proud, the odd men out.
Seriously, Camillus is a business and I understand that they have to do business according to the whims of the masses, even if the masses are clueless.
To the best of my knowledge, there has only been one prototype made and I'm not sure where that ended up or which Becker knife it was for that matter. Let me check this out some more and I'll post if I have any positive news.
What is the difference in the steel between the Extreme line, and a regular Becker? Any idea on prices? saw the pics of the BK7, and it looks good! I am thinking of getting a BK9, and making my own micarta handles.
