I was looking through the Becker line (yes I want ANOTHER!) and noticed the different point profiles -- some are more stubby than others.

Most of the line make excellent camp/utility knives but which ones would make a decent fighter looking at the blade profiles? I know these blades weren't specifically designed for this purpose:rolleyes: just curious about what everyone thinks.

BK6, no doubt ;) :D :p

Magnum Camp first BK7 second BK10 third.
Other models are too big or heavy to be classed as fighters.
As much a fighter as it is a camp knife, the Magnum Camp is
closer to being a westernized or modified tanto that just happens to double as a good camp knife as well.

Corrected model number per post below.

Uhmmm...I've been under the impression that the BK-5 was the Magnum Camp?

My first vote would go towards the BK-5, with my second vote cast towards the BK-9.

Between the two, it comes down to technique. I've had to spend a helluva lot of time getting to where I could thrust as accurately as I'd like with my BK-5, and just don't feel it's a very inherently accurate thruster. (my standards aren't that high, a designated half of a playing card at full speed satisfies me fairly well for now) But with that wickedly thin, sharp blade it's one helluva slasher, and very quick in the hand.

Even though I've never owned one, (handled a few) I feel that the BK-9 would be more accurate for trusting, given its tip location, and it probably don't give up all that much to the 5 in slashing ability either.

In real world instances that Patrol Machete looks positively brutal, but I figured it does escape the "fighting knife" designation a bit.

Although all this being said I wouldn't choose any Becker without having the handles worked on. Thin 'em down, bead blast 'em, take the slabs off and cordwrap 'em, whatever. After spending several hours with my BK-5 I came to feel fairly adamantly about that. Bear in mind, the handles aren't a flaw in design, they do just what they're supposed to do, which is be comfortable and reasonably secure for prolonged hacking and usage.

Scissors, you are absolutely correct on all point, IMO.
The BK-5 is an awesome fighter.

The BK-7 is probably next on the list.
The BK-9 is not fast enough for me.

The BK9 if you plan on hacking pieces off.
The BK7 if plan of doing alot of thrusting/stabbing.

BK-11

The BK-11 Neck Knife is the best one for a knife fight. When the fight begins, whip out the BK-11. The other guy will do a double take at the knife you brought. This is called the element of surprise.

Then, before he recovers, shoot him. This is called bringing a gun to a knife fight.

Hey there All...

I was wondering...Has the BK5 been discontinued? I found mention of it in this thread but I cannot find anyone who carries one. Anyone got any pictures???

Thanx for the minute

Walt

Yup, sadly it's discontinued. An all around awesome cutting tool, that's very rugged, versatile, light, easy to carry and very good handling. As far as production knives go it's got a very..."live" feeling in the hand. Something you've gotta feel to appreciate. It handles better than you'd ever expect of any large knife.

I'm really not sure why it wasn't more popular. in PURE SPECULATION I'd guess that it all has to do with demand and marketing. The BK5 is NOT a bomb proof pry bar, it is not what I'd consider to be "soldier proof" It is an extremely effective cutting tool that appeals primarily to people who truly know thier way around a knife. which is becoming a smaller crowd as history marches on. Don't get me wrong, it's NOT fragile or delicate in any manner, but it's also not the hyped up alphabet soup agency endorsed prybar that alot of other manufacturers put out. (mine severed some rather thick (over 1/4 inch) steel cable with one slice and barely a nick on the edge)

I sincerely hope that some day it could make a comeback. Not sure why it would matter though. I've got mine, and It most certainly is among the last of the material objects I could ever give up.

Oh, here's a pic:

Type in a search for "Magnum Camp" on Google and you'll find lots of 'em. Might even find a place or two that still has some left.
