Becker grips

A few years ago I bought a BK9 and never really liked the handles because they felt completely smooth and almost slippery. Recently, I bought a BK16 and absolutely love it. The plastic grips have a bit of texture to them and it's not smooth like my BK9. To me it makes a world of difference.

Is that specific just to the BK16 or would the BK2 have that as well?

I feel the same way about my BK2. I am either going to stipple the grips, or, I am going to get some G10 material and make my own.
The original grips are just too slick for my taste.

I think part of the reason the handles are smooth is so that they are more comfortable when chopping, like on a lot of axes and machetes. I believe the becker models 2-10 have the same handle scales, but don't quote me on that. I'm sure a seasoned Beckerhead can tell you more.

So then the 16 would have different scales than the BK2? Does anyone own both? I just want to make sure before I purchase the BK2 since I can't handle it first.

I own both and the scale texture is different. The BK-2, 9 and 7 all have the same scales - smooth. At first I bought some plastic tape that only adheres to itself (no sticky adhesive) and wrapped the handle of the 9. Was happy but decided I liked the 9 so much I spent $40 for the factory micarta and died them maroon. The 2 does not have the forward weight of the 9 and felt more secure in hand when chopping so I don't feel the need to modify or wrap the 2 scales.

Hope thst helps.

There are options for the plastic grips: Melt dimples into them with a soldering iron., Cut light grooves into them with a hack saw. And one that I almost did until I bought the Micarta, sand blast them.
