So I was looking at hatchets and Tomahawks for camping/hiking use use lately, and I thought "Why isn't there a Becker made hatchet or Tomahawk ?"

With the trademark ergonomic handles this would be a great camping tool, much better at chopping than even the bigger knives.
I was thinking akin to the Boker Vox T-Hawk, made out of one piece of 1095CV, but without the spike.

What do you think ? I would definitely buy one

Would be cool. Most of the tomahawks like the T-hawk (I'm not super familiar with the T-hawk specifically but that style in general) are designed as more of an entry tool/ novelty and are less effective for bushcrafting stuff. Ontario makes some hawks that use the handle scales from their ranger series knives but after watching some videos they look like they leave something to be desired as a woods tool. On the other hand the CS line of hawks are designed as woods tools and work fairly well (after some work fitting the handle and if the bit isn't all jacked up like the three I've received.)

If there was such a Becker I would imagine it would be a woods/wilderness tool first and foremost and if that were the case I'd be interested.

Yeah, I've been looking at the CS Trail Boss, and it seems like good value, but I would like something with a shorter handle.
And of course I would like to support Becker/Kabar

I plan on doing some touring with the motorcycle when I'm finished with my evening school next year, so I need something smaller, like 40cm length max.
I took the Vox as an example because of the full-tang construction and the compact size. You could probably use it as a woods tool, but I guess there are better options.

I'm sure if Mr.E would design one, it would work really well, thats why I'm starting this thread. :D

I've designed a few, but have never posted them. Have thought about having them made.

I would certainly be interested in a Becker hawk. That being said, if you want one with a shorter handle, but you like the CS offerings, there's always saws and sandpaper...

I would love a Becker hawk, but don't think we will ever see one. Probably would not make the kind of money the knives do, even with a bunch of us here buying them. Totally understandable.

We really must drive Kabar nuts, " You hear what the lunatics on Bladeforums want now?? A Becker hawk!"

There are options though. Buy one and go to town on it. Make it your own. OR if that's not your thing.... I sell modd'ed CS hawks. Every detail is done when you get it. Been selling them locally here and I'm going to be adding them to my services here online soon. I am working on a mini trail hawk for myself and will be posting pics when its done. I can make you one.

Awesome. I'm looking forward to pictures of the mini trail hawk - keep us posted.

I made some concept pics awhile back. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/817592-Becker-Tomahawk

Hammer Pole Version-

Maybe one of these days I'll give the laser cutting guy a call :D

The hammer pole version is pretty much what I'm talking about !
Make that out of 10XX steel w/G10 or micarta handles and you've got your first buyer ;)

I'm totally in to it. That's three buyers right there. LOL
I have a modded CS Pipe Hawk and I love it. But I would really like one of your designs with a standard hammer length (maybe 2 inches longer) handle. Now, that would be the bomb!! LOL

I like the hammer version but is the shadow line around the head sharpened? Cause if so count me out. It does make it a better weapon tho. If that line is radiated count me in. The ability to choke clear up to the head is great for finer tasks. Also make it have narrow cheeks like grandsford Burks and a nice edge. A little heavier in the head than CSS hawks would be awesome.

I don't like modern "tactical" tomahawks. I am a traditionalist. Unless it's in the style of a tomahawk from the 18th and 19th centuries, I'm not interested in the least.

In case someone at Kabar is actually reading this / taking it into consideration, I'd buy happily buy one. Been looking for a small axe for bushcrafting/camping

I don't have a Becker Hawk, but I do have a 'hawk from Theodore Mary Hunt and it is amazing in the hand. He even made it match my Magua. <3

Looks like there are quite a few people interested
Thanks for the offer,B.Mauser, but I'd prefer something I could buy from a retailer/online shop here, with all the overseas shipping/customs hassle.
Modding would be an option, the Colt X-1 looks like a good modding base to me. It's cheap and has a decent steel, maybe I'll buy one and take the spike off.

To spin the idea of a BK&T hawk a little further:
Do you think 1095CV would be a viable option for a full-tang hawk ?
Most hawks I see use steel with a lower carbon content, like 1085 down to 1055
Maybe the handle could be formed to accept the standard BK2/7/9 handles-good ergonomics and keeps the price down
Maybe make a "Zombie" edition to help with sales, everything "Zombie" seems to sell quite well atm

Thoughts, opinions ?
