Hi Fellow Beckerheads and guests.
I have a spare piece of 3/16"x2" 1095 steel that needs to become a knife.
I've decided to move to O-1 (closer to Ka-Bar's 1095CV, I bet) for my own designs, which leaves me with this lovely hunk of material to re-task.
Two possibilities are under consideration:
1) a full-handled camptweener variation using actual becker handles. With Full-size handles, there's enough room for just about a 3.75" blade. I could get creative with the blade shape - with the proportions weird, there's no reason to be a copycat on the blade shape. I could bolt the factory BK handles RIGHT ON - very appealing if I can get the steel holes to line up with the factory handle holes. Maybe even thin them out a bit.
2) A true 75% scale model Camptweener or Crewman to keep the pressure on Ka-Bar!! The original BK-2/3 is at 65%, and tho cute, its a bit small.
This would yield a blade length of 3.9" for a scaled BK2 or 4.125" for a scaled BK10. Option #2 is more work because the handles would have to be made by hand.
Total usable material length is 9.1".
For reference, The BK2 overall is ~10.7" (including estimated pommel extension)
The knife on the bottom was made from the other half of this stock. It measures 3.9" from grind plunge to tip, so that's about the blade size of a scaled BK2. (It's waiting for heat-treat.) There's enough room for another, but I have 2 more in the queue and 2 more planned before making another like that one.
What say you?
Vote and I'll give the results all the consideration they deserve before making my decision.
Right now I'm imagining option #2 with a steep, deep clip point, but anything can happen!
(As a reminder, this is a one-off, and not for sale. I don't want to infringe on copyright/trademark issues commercially by doing something silly.)
