Hello all,

I'm pretty new to the whole knife scene, but I've been really getting into them lately. I've been lurking around these forums, and once I found out about Becker, I was immediately drawn to the community (you guys are awesome) and the knives. I now have a goal of becoming a Beckerhead someday :D. I think the knives look awesome and in fact, I have a BK9 on it's way to me as we speak! I can't wait to get my hands on the king!

Anyway on to the point of this thread. I read a lot of the other threads on the Becker sub-forum, and I can't help but get confused at times as to what some of you guys are talking about. Since I'm new, I don't know a lot of the vocabulary and knife jargon that you guys use. Hopefully I'm not alone and there are other newbies that share my sentiment. If there was a way to get some sort of glossary or index of terms that are applicable to Becker knives going that would be awesome! Just a few examples, terms like "tweener", "FFG", and "FPR" are some that come to mind. Hopefully this inspires someone to create a "Becker glossary" thread that will be stickied. It would definitely be a great help to all the newbies out there. Thanks for reading!

TL;DR - Becker knife jargon glossary/index please :)

P.S. Oh and if something like this already exists... then I'm a dummy and please direct me :o

Welcome, I think you will find that after a while you will just understand. Took me a little while too, but it will all make sense sooner or later :D

Tweener refers to the newer "Shorts". FFG isn't a Becker-specific term. It stands for "Full flat ground," and refers to the primary bevel grind. FPR is "first production run."

The more specifically Becker terminology are things like "Fisking" and "cliching." You have to watch the video to really get the first (it's basically a method for convexing) and look at pics to understand the second.

tweener = any blade used to eliminate fans of Twilight movies ( actually refers to 15,16,17 models as the are between the big 9 and the small 11 )
FFG = Fabulous Freaky Girls ( actually refers to Full Flat Grind )
FRP = Freak Royal Pain ( again that was also a lie. It stands for First Production Run IIRC )

Hope this speeds you on your way, I was the same way a few short weeks ago so I understand where you are coming from. Just hang around and you pick most of it up quickly. Welcome to your new steel overlords!

I've been around and I still don't know what these clowns are talking about......just stay away from a flexxx sheath, enjoy durian jerky while its in season, don't worry about the initiation into the Barlow navy (it only hurts till you pass out), and don't forget stay the hell off tradewaters lawn.

Hahahahahaha.

Welcome to the Becker Forum and Bladeforums.

You'll catch on quickly, and in your spare time, there are tons of threads to read.

Once again, welcome.

Like the others said, it doesn't take long to catch on.

Don't feel bad. I still have no idea what "Barlow" means, and I'm not about to beg for the explanation. I think it refers to some sort of borderline-gay fratenity-type initiation....
