Can anyone tell me what exact color is the leather sheath for my Becker/Kephart BK62 knife sheath. I'm trying to make a dangle for it and I'm having a hard time matching the color, thanks.

It is "dark brown". ;)

Leather doesn't work that way. While the dye that is used is typically a standard color, the leather itself absorbs the dye in different ways and varies lot to lot.

The finished sheaths will have subtle variations in color when several sheaths are viewed side by side.

You can always make your dangle (or sheath) darker with RIT clothing dye or shoe polish (assuming you don't have leather-specific dyes available), and you can lighten it if you have access to oxalic acid.

Or....don't be so OCD and realize that no one is going to laugh at you if your "brown" dangle doesn't exactly match your "brown" sheath. :)

Beat me to it. With leather, you kinda learn to love the imperfection of it as a material.

Maybe pick a darker brown than the sheath, and re-dye the sheath while dying the dangler so they come out the same color?

Edit to add: But yeah, there's nothing holy about everything matching perfectly.

If you want to know the name of a color or match the color, take it to a paint store and use the Spectrophotometer they have to match it, that will give you a start as far as the color name goes or what colors you need to mix together to match your sheath. Your not going to paint it, just match the color up.

Thank you all for your replies, but not for that OCD crack. Giving someone a label like that without ever speaking or knowing them is rude. Your mommy would not be pleased with you. Other than that, great comments one and all thank you.

You're new so you will have to excuse me, even though I DID put a smiley face after the comment. Hang out here long enough, and you'll learn to toughen-up. :) :) :)

David, do you have some personal experience with OCD? I realize it can be debilitating for the person affected by it, and makes people who care about them feel powerless and possibly frustrated.

None of us are here to judge or criticize somebody who suffers from any disorder, or the experience of people around that person.

But. You have to realize that none of us know your life, the same as not everybody shares the same sense of humor. It's a big forum; try to be patient with us.
