So i am looking at the newest catalog for kabar and I am noticing that the kabar made beckers are not stamped with the Becker logo instead it looks painted on like the ritter/Becker 12. Why didn't they stamp it? So if you were to strip the black coating there would be no evidence that it is a kabar/Becker, I am right? Also is there a difference in length or thickness? I know there is probably a thread out there for this, I just couldn't find it...

They started laser etching them this year.
Lower blade rejection rate than subjecting a knife to a many-ton press.

Yep, thats the simple answer.

At the same time, they changed the coating as well. The laser engraved logo is still readable after the blade is stripped, although obviously it doesn't stand out as much (less contrast). And if you go crazy with sanding you could for sure sand right through it.

I don't know of any other changes (thickness, length, etc).

IIRC the laser engraver is what allowed the BK16 to have a FFG rather than a saber grind like the protos (with a FFG there wouldn't be a flat place to stamp because there was also no ricasso).

The reason why Kabar went to Lazer cut over stamping was the reduced likelyhood of blade warpage. Also, I do believe the new coating would have filled in any fine stamped areas Making it a choice between new coating with Lazer markings or keeping the old coating /Stamping.

On Some knives, the lazer etching is faint after the paint is stripped. That is because the lazer depth indexes off the surface and since some paint coats are thicker than others from batch to batch many come out shallow in the steel layer itself.

To deepen the Markings I always either chemically or Electric the markings before I strip the paint, using the paint as the etchant stencil .It ensures deep markings on the stripped blade.
