heya, I've been working on putting names to the model numbers... have come to the obvious conflusion that BK8 is a mystery... but then i remembered the becker/reinhardt kukri - was that an actual becker product? can't find a proper model code for it. somewhat hard to find now too, though i've seen a few for $120-140 range lately. even a couple mach-axen, never a magnum camp. dang.

aside: why is the BK077 extreme model so extreme and EXPENSIVE? gah!

gotta collect them all :)
BK01 --- Brute
BK02 --- Campanion
BK03 --- TacTool
BK04 --- Mach-Ax - DISCONTINUED
BK05 --- Magnum Camp - DISCONTINUED
BK06 --- Patrol Machete
BK07 --- Combat Utility 7
BK071 --- Combat Utility 7 - desert model
BK077 --- Extreme Model 7 $390 !!!
BK08 --- ?
BK09 --- Combat Bowie
BK091 --- Combat Bowie - desert model
BK10 --- Crewman Utility Knife
BK101 --- Crewman Utility Knife - desert model
BK11 --- Becker Necker

BK-8 was an experimental aircraft "egress" knife made for a military trial.
It was not the winner due to cost I believe.

Why are you surprised at the MSRP of the BK77?

The street price is much lower. For example 1SKS is selling them for $250, which is very competitive for production S30V fixed blades of this size. The TOPS DART, Simonich Mid-tech Raven, and several Strider fixed blades are all $300 or more.

Bladite, are you a collector? If so, and you're looking for a REAL collecting challenge, try getting hold of the original Becker.

I think I would have prefered cpm3V for a knife of that value.

how do you mean original? collect Ethan Becker himself? ;)

something else that i'm trying to fact find on... the [rough] timeline
of making history, blade edges, coatings, and sheaths.

i'm working on cincinnati being the original BK&T days, effingham being
blackjack, and camillus being marked new york.

there are a few variations in the handles too. some seem more soft and
textured in appearance, with rounder/softer corners than most i've seen,
which sound somewhat brittle when tapped. mmm.

for the edges, esp the earlier mach-axes, there's a VERY deep scallop of
a sharpened edge which leads very close to the spine. i've not seen
that on middle or current generation blades (cincinnati era). there's a
mach-axe that has about half that scalloping, but the actual edge is a
different geometry than the old old style (no markings). haven't seen a
camillus mach-axe as yet (ever?).

coatings... i've seen: a nickel-phosphate type (very silvery effect)
and a black (nitride?) that is very tough and thin (both cincinatti
era). a grayish somewhat bead-blasted look/coating - seen particularly
on a brute and the reinhardt design kukri (both effingham era). the
aforementioned half-scallop blade has a gray epoxy type coating, and
modern camillus styles seem to have a black, somewhat rough texture
epoxy that wears well.

sheaths... the very old sheaths i've seen were leather through and
through. though i've seen a military style, with a "pull the dot"
release on a cincinnati era - it's exceptionally well done and not that
common. it's unlike the type camillus is using for the bk7/9 type,
which seems not quite as studly. there's also the kydex type used with
the camillus campanion, mangnum camp, and such.

well, that was somewhat my question... i've been out of the loop for a bit, and am unfamiliar with S30V. i'm assuming it's expensive, sure, but THAT expensive? huh.

thanx!
