what becker is the best model. Especially for hiking, camping, light bushcraft, and general outdoor tasks? and why soo?

BK2,because you never know when you'll have to field dress a Buick,or perfom a tracheotomy on a stud field mouse.Sure is as handy as a shirt on a pocket to have a knive that will perform each task with equal aplomb.

Gonna have to agree on the BK2. It's small enough for small stuff and big enough for big stuff and tough enough for both.

If hiking is your thing then the BK-2 is heavier than most people would want to carry around for any length of time.

The smaller BK-16/17 are probably more suited, but I'd probably be more likely to take the BK-5 just because it offers more versatility due to its size, but can still prep dinner for you without a second thought.

I would look at BK16 and BK10 for what you are talking about. Probably 16

The BK2 is an awesome knife, but you said just for light bushcraft. The BK10 is the knife I want next. It is kind of in between the BK2 and the BK16. For hiking and just light bushcraft though I would go with the 16. Lighter and can do everything you listed well.

Best Kabar Becker Model? Tough one. The easy answer as given above is the BK-2 Companion. The BK-10 is just slightly larger (+0.25" blade length) which I don't think you would even notice much difference between the two in practice. Alot of people like the BK-9 and now I'm reading about the BK-7 which I consider the "in between big knife" and more suited for chopping than the BK-2/BK-10 if you don't want the larger BK-9. But you can chop with a BK-2.

I have a BK-2. I bought it because of all the positive comments given on the forum. My first impression is that it is a "beast". For me, it is not very handy for general camp tasks and is heavy to carry in the woods. It is too much knife for general tasks and too little knife for any serious chopping. But how much chopping do you do with a knife? For me, very little. Since I got the BK-16 mentioned below, I leave it home. But I do have it should I want a heavier tougher knife.

I picked up a BK-16 about a month ago and find this knife to be a good match for woods use. It is big enough to use, but light enough that you will carry it. There are lots of 4" fixed blades around. I think it is a very good value for the price as compared to much of what is available. I like the handles even though I thought of them as " cheap" when I first got the BK-2. They are well designed and I feel no need to get replacements unless you just want to.

My suggestion is that you get either the BK-16 or BK-17 and later if you want something larger, go for a BK-7 or BK-9. I think you'll find it to be a very worthy woods companion with a lot of versatility from batonning, to field dressing a deer, to camp chores, to general cutting.

If you find yourself being very comfortable using a larger knife for general woods chores, then the BK-7. But I feel it is too large for hunting chores. It boils down to personal preference concerning size, weight, and the kind of knife you like (or think you like).
