Becker Literature + Pictures

Thanks, Codger. I thought the BK-5 was discontinued earlier than 2005. Was 2005 the last year it was offered?

As long as we're amassing some collective information on the Beckers, here's some text from a PM that Mike Stewart (former owner of Blackjack knives) sent me over at KF:

Mike Stewart said:
The Beckers by Blackjack are all 1095.

They were made between 1993 and 1997.

The original Becker made ones--not Effingham--were 4150 Steel.

We switched them over to 1095.

You will find the Satin Finishes and Silver/ Grey Powder coated and Black Powder coated.

We also made the DivTuls in two sizes in that same Period of time.

I do think that all the Magnum Camps--very few were actually made--were all satin finished. I don't remember having any of them coated.

I really have no idea. Ethan or Phil could tell us, I am sure. In fact, it would be nice to see the listing of Beckers again with from-to dates. Hasn't this been posted here before?

These really ARE treasures, for anyone who values knives.
Thank you.

i should like to find the becker/fisk article... that would be spiffy. also the one talking about the reinhardt khukri shaped object.

check out that picture of ethan (the old one). styling :)

I respectfully disagree with my former employer. All Magnum camps were 440-C.

I have faith in Anthony's opinion.

He probably sold more of them than anyone else.

Note Mike Stewart's comments seem directed at the Becker line being 1095 at Blackjack.

The Magnum Camp was satin finish, seems like a poor choice for 1095!

Show me a Magnum Camp from Blackjack with rust!?

it's the blackjack version of the Reinhardt khukri, not exactly a becker item, says becker on the blade iirc, and has becker's handles... but isn't numbered.

per my blurb at:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4363323
"in the current knives illustrated magazine, april 2007, there is a couple page article on the current camillus woes...
it outlines a few interesting things, such as camillus not paying ethan becker royalties for some time, as well as others like fisk, and so on.
as well as much other news regarding the company, their handling of the strike and workers, and much more.
worth a read."

it would be worth archiving the article for the worthy collector of lore...

it's interesting to note from the article that ethan becker is definitely attempting to obtain control on his line; points out that of the line, the brute was designed by mike stewart; it doesn't mention the magnum camp as design by jerry fisk, or the reinhardt [inpired] kukri either. apparently ethan has managed to line up someone else (also in NY?) to make his stuffs... though camillus won the right to sell off old-stock. mmm. ethan is still out his royalties though.

though in the article, it does mention jerry fisk, and his other models, and his finding a company in brazil (rated bladed abs? bladesmiths all) to make production version of his stuff at about 1/3 custom/hand-made. nice.

more lore is good lore :) i had no idea about the design on the brute for instance :>
