Becker Micarta Handles Cause Stock Sheath Problem

Hi,

I am a new BK2 owner and love the knife. I noticed that the knife fit the stock sheath ok, but the button snap for the knife handle was extremely tight. After a lot of effort, the snaps engaged, but only with VERY high effort.

Now, one of the first mods I did to the knife was to purchase the Becker Micarta handles. They attached fine with no issues (I just have the micarta handles on - no other liners or anything).

However, now when I try to close the snaps, it is simply impossible.

Anyone else have this problem?

Being that the Micarta handles are from the factory, shouldn't I expect that the factory sheath will still properly fit my BK2?

I'm just wondering if I should be contacting KaBar about trying to swap out this sheath, or am I out of luck because I "modded" my handles (albeit with a factory handle option).

Thoughts? Thank you!

Leave it snapped in for a while, and walk away...my machax was like that, i left it snapped in for a few days and now its pretty plyable..not saying this a total fix in your situation, it just worked for me.

The micarta is slightly oversized. And I mean slightly. I sand mine down smooth, and knock some some of the corners off the grippy parts. I do this with emory cloth in strips.

Sometimes, I have put the micarta on and the factory sheaths WILL NOT snap. If you can get it snapped, the snap it and leave it. Come back and will work better, the nylon will pull fine.

If you cannot get it snapped I suggest you take some 600gt wet/dry sandpaper, and just sand away, don't worry, you won't alter the shape much, if any at all, really, you'll just be taking the tool marks out. Once its good and smoothed down, you can rough it up with some heavier, say, 160gt, or similar.

Sorry the micarta isn't working with the factory sheath, but don't worry, it will. And you will have made a little bit of custom work to it, making it, yours.

If you're gonna spring for the nice scales, may as well go whole hog and get yourself another sheath. That's what I did. I found the B2 sheath to be one of the worst sheaths I'd ever come across that accompanied a quality knife, so I contacted one of the forum members, Skyler of Skystorm leather on his site and he made me an awesome sheath for it for a great price:

If you don't like leather and want a kydex, there are plenty of ways of getting your hands on one of those too, check out the Sheath maker thread on here:

Last I check becker micarta was green, not black...Whered you get yours from? Like Moose said, just sand it down to size then.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the tips! I'll give it a try and see if I can get the snaps to engage.

My micarta handles (made by Kabar) are a tan color.......got them from Tomars.

OR. If you like the stock sheath. You can take the rivets off the webbing and attach a large tek lok to the back plate. So many options!

So thats where you went? Bugged out on me to watch a deranged weasel? I'm offended! Hahaha family first or whatever.

New BK2 owner here as well. I got the micarta scales from tomar. Took some doing to get the stock sheath to snap. Hoping it will loosen up a bit by leaving it snapped. I think I will clean up the edges a bit on the scales as there is a few places that has a little extra meat.
