Sheath, cause despite what a lot of people think, the grivory works pretty well for most tasks.

sheath for sure. i could live without micarta, but the sheath is just not good enough for that awesome knife

I agree with clich. As nice as micarta is the sheath for the 7 is just lacking. Get you a good sheath and take care of the 7, and in return the 7 will take care of you:)

I was lucky enough to finda 7 with both from a guy on another forum but would have to agree with the sheath 1st. Factory kinda sucks and if you ar not copmfortable carry'n it you probably won't carry it at all IMO. The right Kydex gives a lot more options. You could always make your own for around $20. Lots of how tos on youtube. Knifekits.com has a bunch of colors in kits.

I say sheath. The micarta is nice, but the grivory is nearly as good. A good sheath, however, is a big improvement.

save your money :) buy more Beckers :>

Well Kydex sheath it is! Trust me I will always buy more Beckers...I...really...want...both...bad...damn it!!!

I've not read the other replies, I'm an awful man I know, flog me later. Nor do I own a BK7, but I say sheath first. I have one set of micarta. While nice, micarta ain't grivory. Grivory grips are seriously under-appreciated.

+1 on this sentiment.

I don't care much for the factory sheathes, and have replace all on my users. I fully understand that the sheathes furnished are functional, and their Mfg. costs contribute to the VALUE in KaBar/Becker Knives. This I feel allows me to select the style, composition, construction and carry of the sheathes for my blades.

I look at it like this - the knife itself is perfectly serviceable with the stock grivory handle slabs. However, the sheath is a hindrance to the knife package's overall performance, particularly if you are in the military and want to carry it as part of your load-out. The BK-7 really cries out for a better sheath.

Makes me wonder what the sheaths for the 'tweeners' will look like. Ka-Bar can make a pretty good sheath - the one that comes with the USN MK-I is surprisingly good. Here's hoping they do something similar for the new Beckers.

If the problem is that the knife rattles around in it's sheath,an even better idea might be to remove the liner and heat it up with a heat gun of a heat gun for a custom fit. Then you'd have extra funds for a set of micarta handles.
