So I picked up a few sets of becker micarta (large and tweener) recently
They are beautiful, and grippy.

Now I haven't used them yet in any serious work

But - I am starting to think I may like the grivory better. For my bk15, the micarta is great. For the larger knives (5 and 9), I am on the fence.

Am I odd? Anyone prefer grivory? Or should I have gotten the g10 scales :D

I prefer the grivory over the micarta personally.

I prefer grivry on the larger beckers like the 4&9,because they're less likely to produce hot spots when chopping, but I like the micarta on the smaller ones like the 10 & 2

I use to like more the micarta due it's looks, especially the green canvas, the downside was when i started using the blades, they are a dirt magnet and since minute one they lost the glamour, so i guess gonna stick with the grivory ones

At first I was dubious. But the stock grips rely on a great ergonomic shape and I quickly realized how awesome they are. Still wanna try micarta though.

I don't have any experience with the micarta but I can tell you that I used the BK9 with Grivory scales to chop wood for an entire week for an hour or two a day and I never developed one hotspot. I did not use gloves either so that is a testament to the stock handles. I never got any sensation that they were ever slipping out of my hand so when people say they're slippery I can certainly testify that they are not!!

Interesting the con side of micarta. Good to know.

I just ordered some of Tommy's wood scales

I have never experienced this...I love them, love stock too...VZ is growing on me.

Micarta on the 16 is heavenly, I can give or take it on large blades as for ergos, aesthetically on a stripped Blade is my favorite.

I givem mineral oil for a great color then hit it lightly with a sanding sponge to bring out the grain. Never had an issue with dirt or anything.

Love the micarta on the 11, though I have no experience with anything else.

mmmm. believe everyone have different experiences with micarta, for me, like i said didn't work that well,i still love the way it looks (when clean) so IHO i experienced already , the g10 scales are a good choice if you want to try something new

I don't have the Becker Micarta, but I do have one other knife with micarta. The Micarta is pretty, but honestly I prefer the grivory. I love not knowing that I can use the knife without gloves for a long time, and not get blisters (and I blister easily). I know some people use gloves by default for knife work, but I don't like to use them unless I have to. And the grivory lets me do that.

I have Micarta on my 15 and it is great (lives in the kitchen)
I have G10 on my 7 and 16 my outdoor knifes and love em, they feel and look great!
My 5 and 24 have the stock scales and I have no complaints at all with them, they have both been used inside and outdoors.
I don't think you can go wrong with what ever you choose. ;)

Micarta makes a huge difference on the 21 I found. I like em on my 9 and 16 as well, but the biggest difference was on the RBK for sure - Just feels much more secure to me.
