Becker Necker: any way to make the sheath lock a little more positive?

Just like the title says. I ECD my Necker in a horizontal position just to the left of my belt buckle. I'd like the knife to be captured just a little more positively in it's sheath so I don't lose it (that would make me cry).

Anyone do this, if so, what's the best way to go about it?

Thanks,

Al

i haven't done it but judging by the youtube vids on how to make a kydex sheath, you can slightly heat up the opening with a hair dryer and press them closer. there's two bumps there in the opening on the blade side and that's where it locks into place.

either that or i'd apply superglue on top of the bumps to raise them up higher.

I am also having a problem with my Necker not locking in positively. I tried boiling water, a lot higher specific heat than hot air, but my problem is the lock-in. I like the idea of super glue. Might try either that or epoxy, if it will adhere to the Kydex.

i would guess that if a hair dryer dont work, try a hot air stripper. they really can turn up the heat if you arent carefull

i just got mine, and its tighter than a bats butt

I have the old Camillus Becker Necker. I saw at KCR that the new Kabar Becker Necker sheath is a little different, but didn't get a chance to try it - that guy was busy yesterday!

I'll try the hot air dryer option, then maybe look into adding one of those screw doohickies like ESEE does for it's RC-4 sheaths.

Thanks,

Al

You could get something like this...

I got one about a month ago and the sheath was tight enough....positive "click". The sheath just seemed a little big to neck carry, so I wear it on my belt. I did order a kydex sheath from Marion a few weeks ago and hope it will be lower profile under my shirt.

Funny you should mention that.... :)

recently I gave the hair dryer a try and guess...it did work..you have to take the knife out, heat the sheath with a hair dryer ( heat the part where the lock is ) then after a while it will get softer and squeezed the snot out of it between a door. after that the sheath it a lot better....I will still do not use it upside down but it did improve on the retention.

Well, I'm going to mention something that might not be helpful to you but then again, it might. I have the Becker Necker and mine still locks in pretty well but I'm just not a very trusting soul when it comes to knife retention. I wanted to be sure that should anything happen that might jar the knife loose.......that it wouldn't be going anywhere. My solution was to find a mini bungee cord. I found some at wally world in the automotive section. They were small and around 9 inches in length(not counting the stretch). I put the metal hooks through the 2 outside rivets and then stretched it down. The cord fits perfectly in the little notch at the bottom of the handle. It's tight enough for my uses and I don't imagine the knife will fall out of the sheath anytime soon. I might not be an idea that you'd like......but I thought I'd throw it out there....just in case. :)
