OK guys, this is what i know about this knife...

it has 1095 with some sort of special treatment (which is fine with me, just need a good steel and i have no probs with 1095).

it is 3.25 inches long for just the blade, overall around what? 6 or 7 inches?

what i want to know is how thick, and how wide the blade is, and also what sort of sheath system does this knife have?

also, which version should i buy? the san mai or the regular necker?

this is the Ka-bar link https://www.kabar.com/product_detai...egoryId=1,2,3,7,8,9&categoryName=New Products

TIA guys, i think i found my EDC fixed blade

I got the 1095 version for Christmas and could not be happier. I EDC it in my front pocket. Id say its a little over 6 or so inches..has a functional barley pop opener on the handle and came to me near razor sharp. For $35 you can NOT go wrong. I absolutley LOVE this knife. as far as thickness goes...well the only thing i have on me now to measure is a Burts Bees lip balm tin. it fits perfectly inside the ring on the lid...hope that helps..The sheath is injection molded and retains the knife securely but not so tightly that you cannot pull it out. As far as how wide the blade is id say around 2" at its widest. GET ONE YESTERDAY!!!! You will not regret it.

Mine came today and I love it.
The edge sucks on mine, and is going to need some reprofiling.
I had to file the lips on the inside of the sheath down as I couldn't draw mine at all.
Check out the San Mai review for some setup tips.

It's flat ground too so once I fix the edge it should cut like a dream.

theedge: thanks man. thats what i wanted to hear. dont want to scare the sheep when i use it around work. that width goes a looong way in that.

diananike: i shall check that out. want to be able to carry it in the back or side on the horizontal. easiest way for me.

looks like when i have the money im gonna be picking one of these up. should be within a week or two :D

I haven't tried a new one yet, but I have a 3-yr-old or so Camillus Necker that's one of my favorite knives, large or small. It generally lives in the inside pocket of my woods-walking jacket.
I noticed on the ka-bar link above, they say the steel is 1095CroVan... which naturally means there's a little more chrome and vanadium added to it. This is a good thing IMO... in theory at least, it should add a bit to the edge-retention and corrosion resistance without sacrificing the toughness and sharpening ease we all love 1095 for
All-in-all I'm really glad to see US-made Beckers back on the market, I only have the one but perhaps it's time to pick up a new one :)
