Just curious, does anyone use their necker for skinning/hunting/gutting purposes

Now, i am not much of a hunter so i have no real world experience, but i was looking at my necker the other day and wondered if folks use it for that purpose. If so does it work well for these tasks? Or is a different blade used instead

thanks

IMO it would work excellent for your purpose.

thats plenty of blade for cleaning a animal

I've seen a few folks using them on deer and what not. Gingivitiskahn has some pics around here somewhere.

Why yes I do... :D

Ok, there's no knife in this one, but it's a cool pic...

Here she is with guts still in (having been dragged out of the thick brambles)...

And here is the post gutting pic. Note the tallow on the blade...

That was the first deer I've cleaned with my BK11 and I have to say I hope it won't be my last. The blade length, shape, etc. is, in my opinion, ideal for the job. When holding the knife just so, the blade comes nearly to the end of my index finger which is nice for feeling along when up to one's elbow in the goopy bits. Clean up was a breeze as well.

If you want to do smaller game with this knife, you might need to do a bit of work on the point (I did) to make it just a bit pointier but it should be just fine. Honestly, for rabbits and squirrels, I like a SAK's small blade but the BK11 would be just fine.

Turkey dressing, IIRC?

No but now I'm hungry for turkey and dressing. :D

thanks guys, as i said i was just curious

i dont get out into the woods enough in general so i havent actually USED my BK11 for anything, it just sits in my pocket (and more recently in my truck) as a "when i get out to the woods" or "just in case" meh

I'm gonna clean me a bladite soon.....

when you clean a bladite, it cleans you too :)

9 fingers of Machax cleansing engaged!

the 10th finger has something special :)

I sometimes use my bk14 to separate drumsticks from chicken thighs. Does it count ?

Hey Kahn what state do you live in that they let you guys hunt small dogs? j/k j/k ;) just messin with you bud, Actually trophy hunting kinda rubs me the wrong way.

Lol bite me! I don't like those pics that well - I must have been at a weird angle because she looks smaaaaaall. I want to say we got 75-80 pounds of meat out of her though. Not sure what the total weight of the animal was but as I was dragging her out, my estimate was roughly 47,000 pounds. :D

By the way - Ohio is the answer to your question.

I cleaned and skinned a deer with my BK11 last fall. Also used it to joint the animal as well. Worked about perfect, stayed plenty sharp. I also used it to split the pelvic bone and sternum - plenty stout.

Will hopefully try out the 14 this year...
