i know they have micarta which i plan on getting for my becker necker at some point but why don't they offer grivory scales for it?

i picked up the tdi pocket clip for the sheath.

Do a paracord wrap on it. You tube has some excellent videos on it. The KaBar Micarta is great though.

The factory micarta looks sharp, and I've seen a few modifications to it, colorwise, that may be what you are looking for.

Of course then there are the guys who make their own micarta at home and tool it out just as they please. Advanced customization!

i know i have the paracord for it. just seems weird to not offer grivory for it. since all the other beckers have that.

I think it is mainly to keep the knife slim and low profile - which are prime considerations if you are wearing it around your neck / concealed under a shirt.

I would have to agree with kidcoyote on the scales. I would love to see some other options out there. Different colors, grivory, cocobolo etc. I've seen a ton of sheath mods to include different servival gear, strikers, fishing supplies etc. I would love to have hollow handles to put different items in.

I believe I've handled JV3's bk11 with the micarta scales and from what I remember, it still seemed too thin for my likings. Long skinny fingers don't go well with thin handles. Might pick up a bk11 and have my try at making scales. I have some micarta that should be usable, if not it is like $5 or so, not an issue.

For me the most expensive part was the resin. I got my fabric out of the leftover bin at the fabric store and that was less than a couple bucks. It is time consuming though. You'd have to weigh out time v. money, but after figuring out how to make it the first the second, third, and so on should go faster.

True, making it from scratch would be time consuming/expensive. Though ready made micarta/g10/wood/etc wouldn't be much of either. Could get a bunch of a decent wood to mess around with and still be fairly well off.

Making the material out of some heavy weight tarps would be cool. Maybe reflective yellow safety jackets!

I was thinking time consuming and less expensive. The resin was around $5 (enough for two batches) and less than $2 for enough for one set of scales.

I like working with my hands so I though it was worth the time spent. Plus I learned something from the experience.

True. It does seem like a fun project, since you make anything you wanted. Whatever material or color.
