Saw some similar set-ups once while a-Googlin', and it seemed a good idea, so I threw together a little survival kit based around the BK11. I posted the early version when I got the micarta scales in the mail, but have since improved upon the concept.

The idea is to have a couple essentials on your person, so that even if you lose all your other gear in the wilderness, you're not entirely up a creek and lacking a paddle.

Here are (most) of the items. A wee emergency folding Saw, made from some plastic pipe and some cut down recip saw blades. Safety pin, a couple needles, military can opener, some fish hooks and around 30' of 8lbs mono line. As led light, fero rod, a tube made from a straw with some tinder, aquatabs, a mini diamond sharpener with a slot for hooks, and finally a steel signal mirror.

On the backside of the sheath, a bit of electrical tape holds the mirror, opener, needles and pins in place. Then over that are set the straw tubes, which contain the tinder, the hooks and line, and water tablets. Then the whole deal is wrapped in electrical tape.

On the front side, I placed the sharpener, then wrapped over the tape with around 20 feet of #12 bank line. The light clips to the lanyard cord, which is 7 strand paracord, with the addition of a strand of braided line, and a strand of waterproof tinder. The folding saw also sits at the front, and a couple of ranger bands (slices of inner tube) hold it in place.

The fero rod slips into some cable clamps that are bolted in place.

Everything in a neat little package!

I've added a third band, but the function is still the same. The additional items make it no thicker than the thumb lock already is. I'll throw it on the scale later and see what the weight is, but it's still very comfortable to wear, and in an emergency, you have most of your bases covered.

Y'all make up any kits for your Beckers?

Hmmmm, haha. It's all good.

That really is a cool rig though, I like it. I've had a few ideas for my 14 sheath, but have never executed it.

Thanks, and thanks for the idea on the cable clamps, it works great! With the handle shape on this particular rod, it clicks in place. And also glows in the dark.

I like your pocket saw idea. Very creative!

I was inspired by the little Survivor Saws that TOPS makes, and there was an Instructable where a fella made a little pocket knife with an old hacksaw blade, so I just mashed the ideas together. Cost maybe $3!

Nicely done! I did something quazi-similar that I posted here with 2 bk-14 sheaths, setup in a Mercharness setup .

It's all about knowing your local conditions and likely / possible scenarios you're guarding against.

All good, you never know, eh? ~
There was a pair of hikers that got lost last Saturday in these mountains. They spent 5 days before being tracked down and picked up by chopper Wednesday night.

With regards to bulk, here you can see that even with the addition of the kit items, it's still no thicker than the sheath already is with the thumb lock dealie. I've found too, that if wearing it outside the shirt, the bit of extra weight keeps it from flailing about.

And here it be under, and over shirt:
