Hello. I am planning on getting a Becker Necker neck knife. I have heard the term "ranger bands" used as a means of securing survival items to a neck knife. Can someone explain this or better yet, post a few pictures of how they've made a survival necklace incorporating a neck knife??

Many Thanks!!

i LOVE my necker.

I use tire intertubes as well.

Here's a photo of my Livesay NRGS necker set up as a survival kit knife.

The knife has under the rubber: Treated cotton, BSA Hotspark, Inova light, 2 10 oz bags, KMnO4, Mirror, #4 waxed line, needle, button compass, and theres about 4 cc of room left for stuff. I hang it on a double loop of 7 strand paracord that is about 1 meter long. I also often carry it with a Jetscream whistle on the outside such that when it prints against the T-shirt it looks like I have a whistle around my neck. I put the LED light at the bottom with the lense poking out so it can be lit up while hanging around the neck. This works great for having to take a leak at night or find something in the pack. Mac

Yes! This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about! I appreciate the picture! Did you sort of slide the stuff under the band? It appears that the ranger band on your knife sheath is one very wide band?? Anyone else have pictures? They are worth a thousand words :D

There are actually two wide bands on the knife. I make the upper band overlap the lower to shed water better. On the back of the knife I pass the double loop of paracord under the upper band between the two rolled up 10 oz bags. The cords pop out midway down the sheath and are tied in a knot. This way the cord is adjustable for taking the knife on and off. I should take a photo of it and post it.

I do this with alot of my "survival knives". So far I've se up my Ka-bar, Air Force Survival Knife, BK-7, and NRGS with stuff under big rubber bands. It works best on sheaths that are narrow and straight. The NRGS is perfect for it.

Place items under the rubber by rolling it back and stuffing the items in as best you can. The rubber really is tight as a drum and the stuff doesn't shift around.

I don't look at the NRGS kit as anything more than a redundant set of emergency gear I'm not likely to loose. The hardest thing to do in such a kit is incorporate any sort of shelter supplies.

Under the rubber bands on the BK-7 kit there is a space blanket wrapped in 1 meter of duct tape, treated cotton, 5 liter water bag, single edge razor, Waterproof matches, and an ACR whistle. It really makes for a compact kit. The stuff under the rubber is no thicker than the Altoids tin in the pouch.

My neck knife kit sees alot of use and if you use your head you can make them very compact. I'm trying to post other photos but I'm having a problem with image shack tonight. Mac

Still lookings for any pics or suggestions on how to incorporate some survival items into a neck knife!!

... on my Necker i have 6' of paracord wrapped on the handle, another 6' wrapped for the neck loop on sheath. a ranger band currently hold a small Bic lighter and a small package of pj cotton balls. the rest of my mini kit is on my belt or BOB.
