At first glance, these two knives seem to fulfill a similar purpose and are of similar size, although pricing and materials are somewhat different. What do folks think would be a better candidate for EDC carry and use on hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting trips? I'm not too concerned about using it as a survival tool. Or is comparing the two an apples and oranges question? Thanks in advance!

I am not familiar with the becker, but I do have a rat3. I ended up removing the belt clip and carry it in my rf pocket with a static cord attached to my belt. I wish the handle was a little longer, otherwise I like the knife and its price. Were you suggesting to carry either knife as a neck knife?

i am the opposite i don't know about the rat 3 although it looks pretty good. i do have the necker.I find the becker great whether you cord wrap the handle or leave it,it is very light and unobtrusive when worn under clothes.i got a techlock for belt carry and it great in that role as well.I would say if you have the chance to handle both do so it's your personal opinion. But price wise you get what i call a little big knife for your money with the becker.hope this helps a bit.

No experience with the RAT-3, but I my Becker Necker is a superb knife for size and price. Very utilitarian design, and comfortable to carry around the neck.

For the jobs you describe the Rat-3 is the best. The BN is a skeleton knife and suitable for limited SD duty and, oh yeah, a bottle opener! Get a sheath.

Sounds to me like you're trying to squeeze an awful lot out of either knife.

EDC? lightweight, thin, low profile handy, used for simple day to day cutting chores, I'd suggest the baby Becker.

Outdoors, carving fuzz sticks, cleaning fish and critters, idling time near the campfire whittling on a handy chunka Birch or whatever, I'd go with the RAT, due to it's larger more comfortable handle.

Overall, I'd say the RAT would be more user friendly while the Becker would be handier. All depends on where your priorities lie I reckon. Also bear in mind that you could take the micarta handles off a RAT more easily than you could put grip panels onto the Becker.

If it were me personally I'd go with the RAT between the two, just due to the difference in handle size and the full flat grind. Also, I live in a pretty knife friendly enviroment where the open carry of a fixed blade knife doesn't automatically conjur up negative images in people or put cops and security on red alert when I go out and about.

Both of them are darn nice knives though. Hope you enjoy whatever ya' choose!:)

Hmmm, I have the funny feeling that I might have to save up a bit and get both. Is there anything else I ought to be looking at? I've got plenty of folders and Colorado has a 3.5 inch blade length limit for carry with some exceptions. Appreciate all the comments!:)
