Im just getting back into buckskinning after a 5 year hiatus and started looking for better equipment. One of the weak spots in my gear is a good, tough sheath knife. Ive built and used my own for years, but never really trusted them for serious work batoning and such. Ive actually broken a couple blades doing so and was not a big deal as I just whipped up another at the next workshop.
Ive decided to stop screwing around with sub-par blades and get a real knife built to take the abuse. The BK-2 caught my eye as a great tool for chopping, batoning, and all sorts of heavy use. With a little modification, could even pass for a historical looking blade. Heavy choppers like the Hudson Bay Camp Knife come to mind when I look at the profile. I was thinking that after stripping the coating, a little forced patina, some nice curly maple scales, and a nice leather sheath, the BK2 could make for a very passable historical knife.
I plan on purchasing the blade next week and am gathering materials for the project. My question: can anyone give me the dimensions of the scales I would need to recreate the grivory grips out of wood, bone, or antler?
Thanks in advance
