Ok so I mentioned in a Bk-10 thread about how I was not happy with the new sheath MOLLE webbing spacing.
I decided to dedicate a whole thread to just this topic.
Any input, pictures, experiences, and ideas about how you all attach your MOLLE gear would be greatly appreciated.
I have a few Maxpedition bags and backpacks with webbing and I attach different pouches and also some of my Becker knives.
The first Becker sheath that I ever had with the webbing was for the tweeners. I think that they fit awesome and I have had no problems what so ever with them. How ever some of the larger Becker knife sheaths are not as perfect.
The biggest problem I see is the distance from the last webbing to the snap.
Example: My BK15/16/17 sheaths have enough space to fit the webbing.
See how how webbing can fit with no problem? ( I'm just using a same size strap for example)
It fits nicely on the pack and the strap is woven thru 5 different webbings for maximum security.
This is my shortened Bk16 sheath that I usually carry on my packs. It fits great And has never come off or even unsnapped.
My Bk5 sheath used to work great as well until today. I'll show you why in a minute.
But first let's look at the snap spacing.
Just right! can fit the strap thru no problem.
But, look what just happened?
Are you kidding me? I barely even pulled on it????? Ugh OK moving on.
This is how my BK4, BK9, and BK10 sheaths spacing is. (Just going to show one of them, but all are the same)
So when webbing is passed thru you get this when snapped
How can this be a good thing? The snap wants to come unsnapped from the pressure of the webbing?
Is this the Norm? Who designed the spacing and why is it not consistent on all the knives? To me this seems like a big deal?
So on the BK9 sheath it isn't that big of a deal because I can just skip the last strap because there plenty of webbings on the sheath because it is so long. But on the BK 10 sheath, It is just awful.
The sheath is only held on by three points. It is sagging at both ends and I would not trust it for a minute unless it is tied on for security.
Not to mention the huge gap at the top.
You can actually fit two straps thru it.
I just can't understand why Ka-bar would not standardize the webbing?
Now on a side note, My favorite knife, the BK12 has a sheath with a whole different MOLLE configuration.
The spaces are way to big and you can't weave every other one like all my other gear with Webbing.
I have to do a strap or two at the top and then a strap or two at the bottom when it lines up again.
I don't have a picture of it on my pack but here you can see how they don't line up next to the BK9 sheath.
And here is how much space is between straps.
So that's it for now but I would like to hear your comments and know if your sheaths are the same as mine.
Thanks!
