Becker sheath modification question

This is a rather simple idea; but I don't recall seeing it discussed.
Seems the current model sheath for many (if not all) of the full sized models has a spot for the Remora. I've got zero interest in the BK13; but would absolutely consider purchasing a couple more 11s or 24s as permanent ridealongs. Obviously, neither the 11 or 14 fit into the insert...but I think the space would accomodate them. I''ll admit right now that I've not put serious effort or problem solving type consideration into removing the insert - YET.
My question: Is that insert secured in some way that precludes removal without damaging the sheath?

I might just grab an extra sheath off the Bay for experimentation, if nobody has the answer.

(As an aside, the pouch in front of that spot is defnitely deep enough to contain the 11/14/24 blade...so there's always the option of putting an insert there. Obviously, the BK11 would allow for easier retention of the covering flap.)

The inserts are secured at the bottom by stitches. On the tweener's, these stitches are accessible from the outside but on the larger sheaths they are internal and require some disassembly. I think Dex has done it.

There is enough space for an 11/14/24 but the plastic insert is a problem. The insert is in the shape a "T". You can feel it through the nylon. An 11/14/24 will go in about 1" and then stop as the insert narrows from 1.5" to 1". It's been posted that if you get the plastic insert hot enough, it will deform enough for an 11/14/24 . But, I've haven't been able to do it and just going by the dimensions I don't think it will deform that much but rather 'split'.

That's why I want to get it out - so I can either reconfigure or replace the insert.
Personally, I'm not sure trying to heat it in-sheath is a good idea - I'd be worried about the nylon melting

I have a BK11 in my BK9 sheath. You can see what I did here.

And it is worth noting that some other people tried it, and didn't have as much luck because of the thicker plastic or something like that. I actually don't "know" if I molded the plastic, or just softened it and split the bottom. Either way, it fits though :D (and there was no damage to the nylon).

Good luck.

It has worked for me, I updated my post on the last page in the linked thread.

Thanks for the info.
I'd actually prefer to remove the insert; but I don't want to mess up the sheath in the process.
Guess I'll try this way on one of my BK 5 sheaths, and see what I think of the results. I'll probably try heating the insert, and the blade...
