So, a few months ago, I cut myself w/ my 14 causing 5 stitches. Flash forward to present. Yesterday, I was removing the grips from my 9 with my DeWalt drill (like a dumbass) and the drill turned the knife into a whirling blade 'o death, which hit me directly on my pinky finger knuckle. Of course it was very sharp, so here's the result....

should've gotten a pic b4 the stitches. Everytime I bent my pinky, you could see what the joint looks like! All that bone and tendon was pretty cool!!

Ouch bad spot. Was a drill to take off those little scale screws really necessary? I am guessing hind sight 20/20. I have been there many, many times. Heel up friend. And post a pick once those bloody scales are swapped out!

No way. You did not do that. Everybody knows you use a drill press for that.

Jesus man. Stitches twice in two months? I hope your planning on just buying a good stapler so you can close the flesh together yourslef next time or learn how to sew/stitch.:D I'm sure/hope that will be the last time you use the drill to turn the 9 into the "whirling blade o' deth" unless you have to work your way through a horde of zombies. Hope you heal well. I refuse to get stitches anymore unless hits a major vein. Scars remind you your alive and of the dumb things/mistakes you should not attempt to do again.

My most sincere apology. An impact wrench is the proper tool. An air impact wrench. With the knife held in your "off hand" of course.

Wait....your not supposed to use a drill press?
I think either would work. It's just that the drill press offers unnecessary safety features, such as a table to clamp down your work, that might prevent just this sort of learning experience. Plus, it's usually best to start with handheld tools before moving up to floor machinery, a point that the OP has so graphically illustrated.

keroscene and the kid, battling for the title!

if there is a prize, I hope it is not a knife :D

I don't know if I can ever take his title away, but I'm sure working on it! Think I'm just gonna avoid power tools when removing scales altogether, lol. Just got finished removing them with a ratcheting screwdriver and an Allen bit. Much better results!

Btw Ulf, that movie clip was a classic! Too funny. :)

No bueno, heal up quick bud.

Ulf: that clip was Ridiculous. I fast forwarded from 1:30 just to land on the part with the zombie holding onto legs due to his torso being essentially part of the room decor...

Dude, what were you thinking?

Everyone knows that the proper way to take off Becker scales is to chuck it in a vise and use a hammer and punch.

Amateurs.

Indeed I did. In fact, what most of you do not realize is........I did this to teach others how to avoid such heinous results! If marring my pinky saves just one Beckerhead a trip to the ER, then it was worth it ;)

Oh, and the whole reason I was removing the scales was to shine up the blade a bit. I got a chance to actually do it today, so I guess I should post pics of the results, AFTER the blood was cleaned off the scales and blade.

dude... looks good, but it would look better wayned. Off with that ramp! and remember, the best way to take that ramp off is with a chainsaw.

It only takes once...or maybe twice.

The old whirling Becker of Death trick eh? I saw Indiana Jones use that trick on a big German boxer once.
