Beckers and Yard Work

Had to tackle shrubs and dead trees in the yard this weekend, so I broke out the 24 and 2 to help with the task.

First, the 24 was around to cut any small roots and served as a backup in case the 2 was too brutish to get into the small spaces (this didn't happen, and the 2 worked perfectly for my needs).

So, the tree had some very large roots to take care of. Normally this would be tackled with a saw or hatchet, but where's the fun in that?

The root of the maple tree was just as thick as the tree itself. Apparently this is the main root for water gathering, and the bastard required a lot of hacking to break it apart.

I finally got the tree out and the root cracked as I pulled the tree in multiple directions. It could have gone faster, but I got a chance to attack nature with a little 1095, so it was a good time.

After the manual labor, my fiance and I went for a walk and found a cool shelter that someone made in the woods.

The shelter included a plastic chair, a small fire pit, and it looked like a good place to crack a brew and solve the worlds problems, which I will have to go back and due at some point. All in all, it was a good day.

Did anyone else get a chance to tackle nature with your Beckers this weekend?

I love that shelter! I used to make those as a kid. That was good fun. Many things have been said in similar spaces! Cool man. Looks like the BK2 was totally up for it.

Nice! Thanks for sharing the pics! Love those shelters as well. I built those a ton when I was younger as well. Love getting to get out and use my Beckers.

Quick story: Last time I got out to use them I decided to clear some brush on some of my apartment's land. I missed the farm and HAD to get out and do something. So I was clearing brush and stabbed myself in the arm with my brand new first production 17. It penetrates flesh very well ;) Lots of blood flowed but it was nothing serious. I'm getting the itch to get out of the dang city again...

No "man cave?" No problem!

That's funny since I've noticed that my apartment has some scraggly looking brush that needs thinned out near a path. So needless to say, I'm in the same boat.

Nice! I love when I am summoned for knife related stuff. I did a bit of outside stuff on Saturday. My dads girlfriends son (complicated stuff) just turned 13 (so he is about my age) and got some chirade knife. So I was summoned to teach him how to use it. So we went of into the woods and I cut down a tree with my bk16 teaching him how to baton (advising him not do do so with his knife). Then back at the house I sort of successfully taught him how to make a feather stick. Then I taught him how to make notches. He seemed to struggle with the chest lever grip so I moved on in training, he was not stiffening his wrists enough and being kind of wimpy with it. I then showed him the benefit of a convexed edge using my bk14 (I kind of surprised myself because I usually don't use my bk14 for outdoors stuff.

So I think I was able to teach him a bit. But promptly after this he fell off a dirt bike at roughly 7mph and broke his knee! So no training for him for some time
