Beckers at the Lake

First off, full disclosure... it wasn't only Beckers that got used this past weekend at Lake Pleasant just outside of Phoenix AZ. The full list of stuff that got used includes a Wenger SAK, Leatherman Wave, Opinel No. 9, Cutco serrated kitchen knife of some kind, Becker BK9, Becker BK13, KA-BAR Dozier folder, and a Fletcher Pocket Kilo. Believe it or not, they all got used for various legitimate reasons and not just for good-times knifey :jerkit: !

Most of these pictures are just to provide some vicarious outdoors good feelings for those of you unfortunate to be living somewhere where it isn't shorts weather yet :D I didn't get a chance to take a whole lot of knife photos, because we were camping with a pretty large group almost all (except me and my daughters!) not being what you could consider "knife people". In fact, three frickin' separate times while I was batoning wood for our fire, I had someone say something along the lines of "Bruce, really??!? Gary has a hatchet up at his camp!". Here's BRL, successfully prepping fire after fire, but yet people gotta comment. I guess the takeaway here is that criticizing a 6'4" guy with a shaved head and a nine-inch black bowie knife doesn't require the brass monkey balls that you might think.

Pics or GTFO!

Our group occupied almost this entire hillside, all the way down to the water.

My oldest got into the kayak as soon as she could, and pretty much never got out the whole time.

Finally got a chance to take my BK9 out for a spin, and I really really like it. I beefed up the handles with Camillus grivory, Flexxx's liners, and a bike inner tube and it's a chopping mosheen. Might even replace my Cutlass machete... MIGHT, I said.

1+1+1 = steak!

My oldest spotted a mouse and wanted to set some man-traps to see if we could catch it. I used the BK9 to dig the holes (shhh, don't tell Toooj).

My middle with her outdoors lanyard which includes an emergency whistle, an Inovo light, and the Dozier folder that Guyon gave me.

Oldest decided she needed to take over batoning duties.

OMG AIRSOFT MULISHA (oldest daughter plus some kid from a neighboring campsite in top photo, youngest daughter in bottom photo)!

I tipped one to averageiowaguy and godspeed, who were having similar good times due West of me.

Outdoors time with the family is my favorite outdoors time.

Very nice man! Looks like you guys had a great time! I havent been camoing at Lake Pleasant for a long time. Going to have to make that happen again before the heat rolls in.

Sweet! You mean it's not 43° everywhere in the world right now? Can't wait till Spring, this helped. Great pix and looks like fun.

Great stuff. You are a lucky man to be able to spend such time in such a location with such a lovely looking bunch.

How did the mouse-hole workl out?

BTW...I'm glad you said it was steak, it looks like boot leather! :p

Cool !

Looks like a great place to camp.

Good to see your kids enjoy it too.

My parents used to take us camping at Gunstock and White Lake State Park (NH) all the time when we were kids.
Great memories. Waking up to the smell of bacon and eggs - the best.

Good stuff man

Looks like an awesome trip man. This time of year is the PERFECT time of year for outings in AZ.

And it sounds like you're really enjoying the BK9 :).

Also, have you ever tried out the coves of saguaro lake (Aka the Butcher Jones turnoff)? I'm not sure where you are in phoenix but from my parents place it was closer and usually less people were there, plus we could wheel and camp in the same place :D.

Kind of my thoughts. I still think I'll take my seasons over having to deal with 100+ degree weather in the summer.

Nice pics, and yes, I'm jealous of being out in t-shirts and jackets in February!

Saguaro Lake was my #1 place for years and years, but now I'm all about Canyon Lake if I'm in that part of the state.

Thanks for sharing what appears to have been a grand old time......You are rich in daughters....What lovely girls.....

All Best....

I love that lake! I have been there a time or two and I remember the water being cristal clear! Me and my brother were swimming and you can open your eyes under water and see bass sitting on beds.

BRL, back at ya buddy. I was thinking about you and Santacruz and thinking we all need to get together. I've actually got a kid every age you do (and some extras) so a family outing would be great too. Looks like a great time and the best weather for it.... I love the 100+ stuff too but the fair skinned wife & kids.....not so much. When it's "that" time of year I own the outdoors.... nothing like hiking Peralta trail and only seeing two people that are turning around because of the heat:D

Nice 9 but I also see a Pocket Kilo that I just gotta get real soon too. Can't see 'em in the pics but Flexxx's liners really make a black on black setup "pop", I'm waiting for someone to order a red sheath so I can take some pictures with matching red liners...... time to make one for myself i guess.....anyways.

Thanks for sharing,

Eli
