Becker's Bow Drill Tutorial

It's a well-done tutorial, Moose, and I do think folks here will appreciate it. I expect a few of them might want to join the Beckerheads and participate in the contest.

Some of you fellers that like and carry Becker-designed knives might want to look into this whole "Beckerhead" thing. Beyond this contest, there are perks to membership, some of which may include special offers on Beckerhead-only goods. For instance, some little birds are currently tweeting about a possible special run of the now defunct BK-10 Crewman.

It takes a little effort, but it might be worth your while.

ETA: Just so moosez45 and Bladite aren't slammed with premature requests (a bad, bad idea BTW) out of the blue for a Beckerhead number, I'm cutting and pasting the posted requirements here...

Ok, I talked to Ethan today at lunch today, and got some things squared away. Gear and swag will be forth coming, but we will go ahead get going.

I still don't have permission from Kabar yet to use the official logo, but I got some leads on it. DB should get us some cool images going soon. Gear and swag will be forthcoming, but it will take some time to get it all squared away, be patient.

thanks for posting that- well done :)

I'm a little unsure on the "backcut" tip though- this is some additional cutting under the V notch?

thanks

Yes, I widen the angle of the v notch, and cut towards the back of the board. Its not much mind you but you creat an area under the center of the divot, making a cone shaped coal pile. To me, the finer dust particles seem to collect there, and seem to help the coal spread faster. I will try to get some more shots of the cut. Thanks for the kind words.

In this pic, if you look at the pile closer to the break line in wood, the small pile that seems to allow the coal th sit in the middle of the pile. I have lost coals before because the tumble off the pile and I screw it up getting back to the carbon pile. Like I said, it looks like the dust is a little finer to me
