Bedknife grinder / lawnmower sharpener as a surface grinder

Hello, this is my first post here on BladeForums!

I've been keeping an eye out for an affordable used surface grinder and now have opportunity to buy a Foley United Accu 610 bedknife grinder for a great price in working condition. Unlike most surface grinders, the blade remains fixed and the grinding head travels back and forth.

Anyone have experience with using a bedknife grinder as a surface grinder? It appears to keep within 1/1000" over the length of the bed. Would this be acceptable in place of a surface grinder for building folders?

If attachment of the blade, accuracy, and adjustment is good for folder blade size pieces of steel, it won't matter whether the blade moves or the grinder moves.

Thanks Stacy, I was hoping to hear that!

I'll probably have to build a jig to hold the blades, but hopefully with such a long bed it will be able to grind a number of blades at a time.
