Two weeks ago, after the Highland Games, I got sick. Figured it was a flu bug or something, which I shake in a day or two.
After about five days, I actually went home from work at noon on Friday.

Now,I haven't gone home sick in anyones memory. My wife of 16 years has never seen me sick. I don't even stop for sutures...I just do it myself and go back to work. If I feel bad, well heck, I would feel bad at home too, so why not have something to keep me busy. I go to bed early if I think I have a bug, get ten or more good hours of sleep, and am fine the next day. I plan surgeries on a Friday so I can go back on Monday ( past knee surgery, and upcoming shoulder). Been that way my whole life.

Back to last weekend. I slept from about 1PM Friday for nearly the entire weekend....when I wasn't having liquid $h!t$.
OK, annoying, but not fatal.
I went back to work Monday, leaving an hour or two earlier than normal each day. When I would get home, I'd eat a can of soup and go to bed. By last Thursday, I was really not feeling well. I figured I must have a real case of the flu. I broke down and left work at 11AM and headed for home to sleep it off. Halfway there I decided to go to the ER. After four hours waiting, I got seen ( good thing I wasn't dying). I had pneumonia and either a bacterial or viral inflammation of the intestines. They suspected food poisoning, and are running cultures to find what it actually is/was.
They put me on a course of super antibiotics that will kill all the bacteria in my body. It was mainly for the pneumonia, but would take out any intestinal bacteria ,too. ( Yes, I know that some of those bacteria I will miss in a week or so when I start eating solid food again.) They also gave me something to help me breath easier.

So, except for getting up for a short while now and then, and going to work a few part days, I have been in bed for about ten days.
I have developed a few stiff and sore places in my back and neck from not moving, but they will work out. Otherwise, I am starting to feel better.

I'll let tomorrow morning decide if I go in to the store, but probably will for at least a half day.

Get better Stacy. I once thought I had somehow food poisioned myself and bleach rinsed
all dishes and eating utensils for about 2 years after. I finally shook it after about a week,
scared the hell out of me though.
Ken.

No Canadian beef that I know of.

I really have no clues where I could have picked something up. Lets see ......, food vendors food at an open air festival, salad veggies from the store, 2 Dz raw oysters a few days before, whatever is leftover in the fridge at work, working with jewelry that was in peoples ears and on their body, digging in the garden, scooping cat poop, occasionally eating fast food prepared most likely by illegal immigrants ..... nope don't see anything suspicious there :)

Heck, they claim you can get sick just from touching a public doorknob, then rubbing your eyes or nose. A person can't live in a bubble all the time.

Stacy,
Feel better soon. The pneumonia and the dehydration from the runs
can be very serious. Take care of yourself, listen to your MDs, and rest
even more than you think necessary. We ain't getting younger!:o

Feeling a lot better ( probably due to the meds). Went in to work today. Going good so far. Won't push it....maybe 3PM.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

On a different note:
Sunday I was still laid up. I got a call from the pastor saying three people showed up at church. They were the man I assisted in the severe accident when he was run down by a drunk driver, his mother, and his year old baby. They came to my church to publicly thank me ( which they did, sans me.). He is doing a lot better, can think fairly clear now, and the short term memory has improved a lot. Still a ways from getting back to work, but steadily improving.

On Thursday, I got a subpoena for the appeal of the man who ran him down. He had plead guilty, but didn't like the amount of time he got. I will gladly go and again tell how he blatantly ran the workman down while driving on the wrong side in the work zone, and then stood there saying he stepped out in front of him. Hope all works out for you.. Sounds like something anyone could get, at any time. Hang tough and a speedy recovery ...

There are all kinds of germs going around right now. My neighbor had pneumonia like symptoms and went on a course of antibiotics and nothing seem to help but let it run its course. Nearly everyone picked the bug up and I have been fighting it for two weeks. Chest congestion, and my nose is like full of glue each morning that just does not come down. The body thermostat is out of whack too with hot and cold flashes. I can be freezing one moment and then break out into and uncontrolled sweat. Eating is difficult, no appetite. The symptoms are gradually improving after two weeks and it seems to take 3 weeks to go through the persons body. Hopefully in another week I should be okay.

These things spread around the globe quickly with air travel and all those key pads we touch when making store purchases.

Yesterday I felt better and could eat again, but today I have to purge myself for a colonoscopy tommorow. Not looking forward to drinking that nasty nuclear stuff, and the endless violent erruptions at the outhouse. That adds more to the weightloss. Once its over than it will be a busy time at the BBQ. I try not to think about it but the ribs and chicken are waiting in the freezer.

You have the opportunity to reset your intestinal flora with better bugs by avoiding certain foods for a few weeks while your GI resets itself.

I'd heard about this and when I underwent treatment for an ulcer and I decided to try it out. The theory was that if you avoid sugar while your system gets readjusted, your GI won't favor bacteria that likes sugar, which alters the way your gut processes foods and reduces your tendency to gain weight as you age. I cut out all sugar and ate only high quality homemade foods for a couple weeks during and after the treatment. I don't know if it worked as planned or not, I was relatively lean before and I still am. But what I got was unexpected and way better, my allergies went away. I used to be miserable with allergies about half the year and now they no longer bother me.

Just my personal experience, I don't know what it's worth...

The doc told me to eat a few containers of yogurt. I have heard that avoiding sugar will help avoid some of the tummy distress often encountered after this treatment.

Had not heard you were feeling bad, Stacy. Sounds like you've turned the corner and should be back to par shortly. Good to hear.

Fred

Thanks, Fred. I feel about 97% recovered now. Plan on getting in the shop for a while Saturday.
