Used to be newyork. Didn’t log in for a long time. Tried to again. Made this new log in and then stepped away for a long time again.

anyway, I’m just catching back up to Spyderco. I usually carry fixed blades lately except for my Hogue Ritter and occasionally my vg10 Endura.

looking for something a little more sheeple friendly than the full sized stabby guys. Something slicey but solid. Under $200. Medium sized. I have a couple exceptions that strike me that are either large or over $200.

Few models I’m looking at

delica (boring but utilitarian and inexpensive)
Ikuchi (different and low pro)
Salt (just lost my Pacific)
PM2 (used to own a couple)
Watu (very interested but the cf is meh)
Manix 2 (always avoid them for some reason)
Gayle Bradley (lust! Never see them)

rather not frn but I would anyway. Models don’t need to be super lightweight. I carry a ton of stuff so weight isn’t a concern.

Exceptions for size;
Military (had one and loved it)
Native Chief (bad ass but huge and not sheeple friendly)
Shaman (big)

Exceptions for price;
Spydiechef (wanted this forever)
Swayback (not a wharnie guy but it’s hot)

K390 Endela.

It feels sturdier than Delica and Endura. It has the same size as PM2 but lighter. The tip is stronger than but not as stabby as that of PM2, Manix 2, Military, etc. Plus, K390 is a good steel.

Yes you can still find a GB2 here and there. The Endela is a nice mid range fit ... I like putting some micarta or G10 scales on my Delicas and it makes them feel like a different knife and they carry great when I need to down size my edc for the situation.

I also like the new Pattadese for a mid sized knife. 3.2” M390 blade; linerlock (which I prefer); wire clip and smooth G10 handles. More interesting design than the usuals. Right at $200

Every time I search for a GB2 it’s unavailable at every shop.
My endura is blue too. Doesn’t seem so different in size and shaped from the Endela but it’s hard to tell in pics. Kind of boring and another FRN (last few I’ve owned were frn).

You might also include the Kapara as an option. I just got one today and it might be my favorite Spyderco. The contoured real CF is really nice in hand for me.

You will have a hard time finding a GB2 at any online shop where they always seem to be out of stock (including at Spyderco itself) but a GB2 always seem to be available on EB, where you'll also find a GB1 from time to time.

There's a new GB2 there up for auction w/3 days to go and another new one offered for what I think is a reasonable "Buy-It-Now" price. So, don't complain again, if you don't buy one of them NOW.

LOL! ;)

Can I trust eBay with fakes etc?

the other couple are around $270. I’d imagine with 3 days left it’ll climb that high too.

Sorry RSL19...I didn't realize that the GB2 was sold out everywhere. There's no fakes of ANY of the Bradley Spyderco offerings that I know of.

I’m really surprised I’m saying this because I don’t usually get into wharnie but that Swayback is really killing me. It’s unique in their line up. Seems very useful for daily tasks. Has limitations of course. Handsome. Sturdy. Not offensive. Good steel.

Question;
How does the steel on the Spydiechef hold up doing regular daily tasks that don’t include food prep (important but some of us use knives on wood or plastic here and there)? I seem to really like the Slysz designs and how Spyderco finishes them.

2nd vote, and first thought when reading your post, for the Kapara..
Very sheeple friendly, as it's "elegant" and "fancy" looking..

Disappears in pocket. Great feel in hand. Can be a little smooth feeling at time.
S30v is solid.. wire clip..
Can choke up for more control or use all the (almost)Military length, cutting edge. Yet it's an 1.5" shorter..

That Kapara is a sweet looking piece.
I just watched Michael Christys video on the Endela K390 and he seems to adore it. Now, I can’t be bothered to sharpen like him (I can’t imagine getting that into it) but someone with that depth of understanding really loving that knife says something.

I've purchased a significant proportion of my over 140 Spydercos off of EB and have only come across 1 fake - a Yojimbo2 - which the seller clued me about because other prospective sellers mentioned a possible problem w/the knife to him.

After doing some research, I discovered at least 3 indicators that made it likely to be a fake which I reported to the seller, who immediately refunded my $.

I have not heard of any fakes of a GB2 being made/sold. Doesn't mean there aren't any but the GB2 is not the type of knife that conterfeiters like to fake because it is NOT that popular and NOT that easy to copy w/cheap materials and machinery.

There are lots of sources of info on possible fakes of any Spyerdero (or other knives) that you want to buy.

You can find a lot of tips for how to avoid being taken and what to look for in a particular model; videos are particuarly useful in this regard.

One useful thread on Spyderco fakes is "stickied" right at the top of this sub-forum. Take a look.

Good luck!

BTW, I own (or have owned at one time) all of the knives on your "buy list" (except for the Delica and Swayback) and, if you are worried about fakes, the knives you probably should be most careful about are the Delica & PM2, which are both widely available and easily purchased from reputable dealers at standard MAP pricing.

The Swayback is an excellent choice for EDC. But will run you over $200.

LC200N has been shown to hold up well for EDC! I haven't used the SpydieChef for long periods of time, But my Caribbean is one of the best "user" knives I own.

I saw that. It’s quite a bit over sadly.

I've seen $210-$240 regularly on the exchange for LNIB/NIB Swaybacks.
