Hi Barracuda and Dave, thanks for that. Dave I appreciate the critique. I've been using a piece of ceramic tile to glass the damp W&C leather right after cut out. Does about 15 passes with moderate pressure sound right?
On the edges, I've been edging/sanding/burnishing the leather while wet/damp and it really beats up smaller parts like belt loops. I've recently tried to do this on drier leather and it seems to help a bit. Am I on the right track doing it dry? When I eventually get to true burnishing with saddle soap I do dampen it.
About the edger, I have noted that it seems to cut clean down one side, but if I go the same direction up the other side it crinkles, so I reverse direction. Does leather have a preferred grain direction or is it my imagination? I googlesearched here for edger sharpening and will try that too, pretty sure mine's a cheapo.
I have been pretty light on the beveler and will try harder taps next time.
Thanks again.
