Hi everyone in S&S. It's been a while since I posted anything, here's my latest, I'm progressing on the edges still but they are pretty shiny! Any critique appreciated.18-26 3.JPG 18-26 4.JPG

Very nice. Your figure carving has come a long ways keep er up! Are you slicking or glassing your leather before tooling? That would of helped a lot on this sheath maybe getting rid of the wrinkles near the top and the wobbilies or crinkles from edging near the tip. The crinkles can also come from too belly-ish a piece of leather (as can the wrinkles), not slicking and your edger nbot sharp enough. Once you get those crinkles while edging, sharpen your edger and then go the other direction. That will help even out the crinkles. Deeper beveling would start setting your tooling off better.

Hi Barracuda and Dave, thanks for that. Dave I appreciate the critique. I've been using a piece of ceramic tile to glass the damp W&C leather right after cut out. Does about 15 passes with moderate pressure sound right?

On the edges, I've been edging/sanding/burnishing the leather while wet/damp and it really beats up smaller parts like belt loops. I've recently tried to do this on drier leather and it seems to help a bit. Am I on the right track doing it dry? When I eventually get to true burnishing with saddle soap I do dampen it.

About the edger, I have noted that it seems to cut clean down one side, but if I go the same direction up the other side it crinkles, so I reverse direction. Does leather have a preferred grain direction or is it my imagination? I googlesearched here for edger sharpening and will try that too, pretty sure mine's a cheapo.

I have been pretty light on the beveler and will try harder taps next time.

Thanks again.
