Hi:

I've been away for a while - a few years - but I have that itch again! I have a Sebenza (great but perhaps not a custom tactical), Kasper Fighting Folder (great in damascus, but heavy), Elishewitz, too many AFCK's (not a custom and no longer available with the hole?), and a few others.

What maker, folder, and blade material might you recommend. 3.5 - 4" would be great! Thanks very much!

Warm regards,

akula

Sid's suggestions are excellent. In the past few years there's been an explosion of first rate knives and knifemakers. You have to get more specific about what you are looking for and what range.
For tacticals, which it sounds like you prefer, consider a Greg Lightfoot in BG 42 or for something a little lighter, Brian Tighe.
Actually, I just got a Jason Jacks recurve folder in talonite with tigerstripes that is very, very cool. If talonite is too soft, I'm sure he can scare up some 440V. Brian and Greg also do talonite or stellite.
In terms of materials, I don't like ATS 34 much, but I do like talonite, 440V and BG 42. I also prefer integrals or framelocks to linerlocks.
And then there's Tom Mayo, Darrel Ralph, Bud Weston...
Check out AZCK, The Edge, Triple Aught, BladeGallery, BladeArt, Les Robertson etc etc to see what's out there nowadays. You'll be shocked.
And then there's the Busse Infi Nuclear folder... :)

might get better replies in the custom knife forumpersonally i love a lot of what ddr and tom mayo do, they make some beautiful knives, although perhaps not as tactical as some.

One word: Emerson

I like the CQC7, Commander, and Raven - although the Specwar and Mach I are nice also, if you've got the extra patience and dough a SOCFK is not bad either, I whole-heartedly recommend Emersons.

Two suggestions:

Darrel Ralph, Mad Max

Akula, are you looking for a handmade folder or production? If you seek a production folder, take a look at the Microtech L.C.C. If you want a basic G-10 handled tough tactical folder check out the Buck Strider. By the way, the Benchmade AFCK still has a hole in the blade, except it's oval, not round. :)

For a production, consider the Al Mar SERE 2000. For a custom, give serious thought to the Darrel Ralph EDC.

Do you have a REKAT Carnivour yet? If you don't have one, then it IS the folder that you "need".:).

Take a look at Microtech's and Masters of Defence's stuff. Also the Spyderco Military is cheap, large (4 inch blade), and strong.
