I have been looking for a decent chopper. Other considerations I have had are the BK7 or BK9 but I like the looks of the Esee it just seems a tad expensive. So I am open to suggestions.

The 9 is a heck of a knife and for the money ... great deal.

IMHO, You just can't got wrong with it.

The ESEE 6 is not really a chopper due to it's thin blade. I would go with the Becker.

I would 2nd the idea for the BK9. For the money, it's very hard to top that blade. The ESEE 6 is a great knife and would be somewhat comparable to the BK7(however the ESEE 6 only has a cutting edge of about 5.5 inches due to the finger choil vs the 7 on the BK7). All 3 knives are around the same thickness, which is 3/16. The BK9 gives you a good 3 inches of extra reach and weighs more so it will definitely be a better chopper. Another option to check, if you can find them, is the Ontario Marine Bowie. I'm not sure if they still have them or not but Cabelas did have them on the website for a very reasonable price. You might still be able to find them at some other places as well.

I would say stick to what you have been considering, get the ESEE 6.
:D

The 6 inch blade range isn't really chopper material IMO. If you want a nice chopper, and save some money, get the Condor Golok.

the 6 is not really a chopper ? maybe a light chopper at best ?

THe BK9 is a better chopper if that is what your after

I was also looking at the ONTARIO GEN II SP45. Does Ontario make some good stuff?

I guess I am a little wary to buy Ontario since Esee Split from them. Was this for any bad reason?

if you like the looks of the 6 go with it but don't expect it to chop squat.. otoh, if you buy a bk7 you can grab the end of the grivory grip (ball like end) and that makes it a decent chopper, if you want more get the 9..

the 7 though is really a very versatile knife, combat, utility, camp, and bush..

I actually chose the 7 over the esee 6 when I sold my CS Carbon V SRK I wanted something in that same range and went with the 7 and absolutely love it..

I have a Rodent Solution I just cant figure out the Convex edge deal so I dont know.

BK9 - it's a chopping fool. Sometimes I get up in the morning only to learn my BK9 has been out chopping the crap out of stuff. It can't be stopped!

Get one and chop like you mean it.

Beckerhead #42

The BK-9 would be a fine knife for your intended purposes I'd change the handle material but thats just me also the newer BK-5 looks great too.
