Well, I just popped my head into the Cantina today and saw hollowdweller's "Godlike beings" (LOL) thread and also realized that my participation has been pretty much lacking lately. It's been a pretty turbulent past few months re-adjusting to civilian life and school again. Unfortunately that means that my Cantina participation time has been somewhat limited, which is a damn shame because there's a lot of good here to miss. Rest assured I'm doing well and haven't forgotten about this place or the good people here. I'll be sure to check in more frequently.
Here's a quick update on "where I'm at" for those who are interested. After I seperated from the Army this summer, I spent a month and a half at home unwinding and doing a lot of varmint hunting with my Dad and brother. In August my brother, a friend and myself moved into a house here in Erie PA in preparation for fall semester. It's an old place, but has a huge living room and the rent is reasonable. Plus no one cares when beer gets spilled on the carpet.
I'm about 24 hrs away from completing my first semester of college at Penn State Behrend here in Erie. It's gone very well. I hated English with a fiery burning passion, but Chemistry, the class I dreaded most, ended up being my favorite because the professor who teaches it is one of the best teachers and nicest people I've ever met (she's easy on the eyes too). I got a job in the hunting department at a local sporting goods store and absolutely love the work (management and a few of my co-workers are another story, but we all know nothing's perfect). I get a great discount on guns and have learned a lot more about them in a few short months. I also got my CCW permit and joined the NRA again after the civil-rights fiasco we saw down in New Orleans. Having my carry piece was very comforting when I came home to an unlocked house about two months back. I'm not sure if I mentioned it at the time, but I did manage to shark one of the Uncle Bill memorial Salyans and also bought one of Rusty's Biltons when mamav sold parts of his collection to support his widow. Both will always be centerpieces of my collection and will be passed on to future generations with the memory of the men who made them special. I'm in 'negotiations', so to speak, with the Army Reserve. I may decide to fulfill the remainder of my service obligation in an active reserve rather than an inactive reserve position. The money is good and with time, my dislike of the military has softened a little. I'll post the story of my meeting with a local retention NCO (sort of like a recruiter) soon, it was quite an experience. Wow, that ended up being a longer post than I intended. Anyway, it's nice to be back in the community here and I have missed you guys. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
