Due to changes in my life I ended up spending a lot less time online, and haven't posted on the forums (here or elsewhere) in a few years, haven't even been lurking that much. Haven't been buying many new knives. Haven't changed my EDC loadout much.

I'm still carrying the 710hs I bought 5 years ago, and use that for just about
everything. Every once in a while switch it out for the 730cfhs. I carry the G-10 Harpy and SOG Night Vision for backup, and a CUDA Maxx 5.5" bowie for social emergencies, but hardly use them, Supertool 200 takes all the prying and abuse. I recently took stock of my knives and I've got a handfull of very good knives (Sebenza, Forum 705, etc.) that I just don't use or carry at all. I'm thinking about selling or trading them for something I'll find more interesting.

So I poke my head in here to see what I've missed in the knife world, and nothing really catches my eye. I went out to a local knife store the other day to get a look and feel of some new offerings, and nothing really got me excited. The 630 looked like my kind of knife, but after getting it in my hand it just didn't feel right (like it's BM's answer to the Strider folders, rather than an AFCK class knife). The 420 looked cool, but seems too thick. I love the shape of the Spyker, but don't do linerlocks. There's a BM, don't remember the model #, that I think was a special project with another company or something, built on a 940ish handle with a MT Vectorish blade that looked and felt good, but I don't see buying one as changing my life significantly, which what I used to feel every new knife would do somehow.

I don't know if I can say that I'm not a knife knut anymore, carrying at least four every day, but I really don't think about them when I don't need them. When I take one of my knives out to cut something, I still feel a sense of pride or satisfaction when it my blade glides through something smoothly and easily, tackles a tough task with impressive grace, when others express admiration of my knives, knowledge, quickdraw, when a lady friend tells me how safe she feels with me, etc. But I haven't been living as though knives are a major part of my life.

I've been looking into flashlights more, but I expect I'll get a few good ones and that'll be it. Nothing like the knife addiction that fueled me for a few good years.

It's true I've had other interests taking up more of my time and resources, but I did before, and along with, knives as well. Don't know why knives just don't turn me on like they did. Of course, according to anyone who's not a member of this forum I'm certifiably knuts, but who listens to those fools anyway?

It's good to see so many old faces still here; good to know there's good folks to hold the fort down in my absence.

Hey, good to see you post again. I think it's normal to have fluctuations in the kind, and the intensity, of our interests. Knives are cool, but there's no reason why they should be the major motivation in anyone's life (unless of course you're a maker). Although anyone who carries four knives at a time is a still hardcore knifeknut in my book!

Have a look at the Spyderco Manix. I was going through a dry period recently, but I perked up when I picked up one of these brutes.

Welcome back!

Hey buddy, you are just undergoing a knife hangover phase. You will soon get over it. I was like that for a while until I accidentally saw something that I really like, and the spark burst into flames again. ;) :)
