So as some of you may know, I lost my job back in November. I wasn't sweating it, thankfully I am nowhere near as terrible with money as I had been, so it wasn't the end of the world. Add to that unemployment and everything was just fine. Then, around late March, a buddy of mine pointed me at something that sounded pretty dang good. One interview in, two hours of waiting, and I got whisked off into a whirlwind of a new job. So what might this job be? Well, government contractor is what I am now, but that doesn't really tell a person much. My role for the WV National Guard Joint Operations will be that of Knowledge Manager, and depending on how well that works out, Knowledge Manager for the entire state of WV National Guard. It has been an absolute blast, but it does require a lot more of my time (if only because I have to drive an hour just to get there) but it is well worth it. I get a lot more moolah than I was at the last place, I work with people that are not easily offended and have a sense of humor, and I get a lot of other fun perks.

About my second day, a Colonel came out of his office and asked where my PT gear was. Since I didn't bring any he proceeded to tell me to bring it, I get paid to work out. (What?) Basically, at some point in the day, I have anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half (although no one seems to be counting) to go and work out, either in the gym, or to go run in the state park that is less than 50 meters from our front door. It is a lovely park, with tennis courts, pond, golf course, etc... Now while that makes for an interesting run, I got taken the other day to some of the trails, and I snagged a few pics along the way...

And a picture of my baby, just to make it relevant.

Anywhoosles, that is where I have been. Looking forward to seeing folks at Ethan's next week, and then at Bladeshow next month. Hope everyone is doing well, and as things slow down I should be able to put a little more time into the forums again and get the contests rolling.

You've been gone? :D Congrats on the new job, sounds like a hell of a good deal.

Hey Derek. Do they need someone to take care of the facilities, the way you take care of the IT stuff ?

Not just everybody that can get that kind of a job ~~ but you need to tell your boss you need more time in the woods to
put more energy into your Becker Knives as they really do need a workout also..!!*** Ya know.??

Congrats on the new job... It looks awesome and we hate you for it....lol

Ironically I finally start my new job monday.... 7:15 am helicopter flight to an oil rig, somehow I doubt I will have anything near the scenery you've got

Looks like you have a nice gig. Congrats!

Don't worry about being gone. We will be here when you get back.

Jeremy

I just figured you went red and did like most Mods and disappeared! :-P

Looks like a sweet gig though, D. Congrats on losing the job!

a job that requires you too exercise!!! shutters!!! lol j/k been back in the gym a month and dows 22 pounds myself!

That's pretty awesome, D. My company doesn't even pay me to drive their truck to their jobs ! Sounds like that job loss in November was a good thing; you could say they showed you the door.... I should be changing jobs myself in a couple weeks. Looking forward to it, but it's hard to see out of the rut I've been in for the last 20 years.
That park looks just....I'd go for a trail run every day even if it wasn't paid, especially since it's on the other side of the office door! Congrats on the new employment gig.

Congrats on the new job.

Sometimes, we get in a rut and can't see that it's a rut. Change has to be forced on us and many times that "forced change" can frequently lead to things we would never consider or be open to accepting at the time.
