I’m gettin better at this. This is got to be my 3rd hang now I believe. This axe had a large eye and it was tall so I had to do a lot of work on the handle. I snuck a little extra wedge material up front.

I been using axes for splitting hardwood on the ground. I run heavier axes like a 5# Plumb on a 35” handle but I’m beggining to use a few of the lighter 3#ish axes on 32” handles for splitting at the wood pile if the firewood is just a bit too big I split it again. No need for a large axe here. Also if I’m splitting a tree 12” or under why use the 5#....grab a smaller one.

I haven’t tried one of these Kelly axes yet. It has sentimental value so if it’s sticky in the wood I’m hanging it on the wall cuz I like the way this one looks! It come out at 31”.

I might look for an alternative to boiled linseed oil. I tried it on a few now, I like the finish but hate the smell. Any recommendations?

I see the camera symbol, which opens a “your media” box under this area I’m typing in

My neighbor swears by penetrol- I’ve been using timber oil and BLO recently- tung oil does well, too, from what I’ve heard.

The smell will fade, and you will probably get used to it anyway.
I didn't like the smell at first either.
Welcome to the forums BTW.
