Been lurking...but now I need some help

Evening all - not sure if this is the most appropriate area to post this....but I'll just jump in and see where it lands me.

After lurking for many months, I need some help. After a series of MANY terrible decisions, a clear family friend has found himself incarcerated for a very long time. He's dealing with the appeals process, which may or may not be a productive use of his time, but either way he needs some money. That's where I need your help...

We're helping him clear out his house, and we're now working through his collection of vintage saws. I need your help in identifying what I should let these go for - are they worth a fortune? Or $5 each? I have no idea, and would be willing to let them go for a song out of my own ignorance...but he's going to need as much as he can get from them, which means I need some input from the experts.

Furthermore - where's the best place to list these things? eBay? Craigslist? They can't be easy to ship, simply due to their size.

Take a look at these pics and let me know what you think. There's a small 12" ruler at the top of must of the pics just as a size reference. All of saws were stored indoors, but all appear to be quite old with plenty of surface rust.

Any ideas based on these photos?

Your input is incredible appreciated. I have no idea what I'm getting into...

OK - the pictures are up....but all sorts of wonky. Sorry about that.

He's got quite a few scythes not pictured, and other unusual hammers/hand tools. There's a gigantic (by my standards) miter saw with an adjustable backstop. Great piece, but it's got to go.

Not sure where to go with all of this. Hoping you guys can set me straight!

Ebay is the place to sell. Due to condition nothing there is especially valuable. The miners picks with the narrow eyes are something some people look for - though not of great value.

The long ship auger/breast drill is a good piece. The one man crosscut saw in perforated lance tooth pattern, 3rd saw down in the 13th photo, isn't a bad looking saw.

Most of those carpenter saws look like users maybe $10 or so. If rare makers the value could be more but rust, chipped wood and missing nuts along with excess wear bring values down. Condition is important. Looks like 2 or 3 nice Disstons along with that back saw second from the bottom may be worth something.

There are quite a few Disstons, and many of the saws say "Warranted Superior" on the handle - is that a manufacturer?

Thanks again everyone - now I have a jumping off point at least. That's what I needed more than anything...

. . . "Warranted Superior" on the handle - is that a manufacturer?

...

No.

Also don't use the medallion to id a saw. They are not necessarily original to the saw. You need to id the plate.

The lance tooth croscut is in your second picture, with the slots in the cutters.

I'll only speak for the big saws. None look to be in very good condition and Ebay would be your best bet. One of the one-mans looks like a Atkins which is a decent saw. You can estimate shipping pretty easily on the USPS site using LxHxW + weight. Wrap in cardboard and run strapping tape radially around the package.

All of this is exactly what we needed to hear.

I don't mind making somebody a smoking deal on the entire package....but I didn't want to give them away when he could really use the extra bucks. Someone is coming to look at them this weekend, so now I have a decent reference point.

You guys have been super helpful. Can't thank you enough.
