Hey guys, been thinking of getting a sak to give my leatherman the weekend off
Is this a good choice?

Being a tech I need the pliers and dont want to spend too much.

Nice choice I need one of those.
If you really want you can get them in different colors and patterns. The plain red gets boring sometimes.
Color examples: Ruby red, Black, Camo, Emerald, USA Flag, Stayglow(glows in dark), Sapphire, Silver Tech.

You could also look into a Handyman.
But I like the Tinker.

Thanks Guys

Bladechick, I've have been thinking of getting it in a diff color

Am thinking of the handyman but the deluxe tinker is stronger on my mind :)

You can also buy scales and do your own scale swap. They pop off and pop back on. Easy as pie.

The deluxe tinker is a great choice im on my second one the first lasted almost fifteen years and would have still been in great working order if I hadn't lost it. I replaced it about two years ago and the new one is working great too. Think about a compact too it comes with large blade, scissors, corkscrew, mini screwdriver, pin, pen, combo bottle opener and can opener, as well as a hook overall the compact is great for around the office the deluxe tinker stays in my back left pocket every other time especially on the bike

I was contemplating getting an SAK too. I was looking at the Mechanic and Tinkerer models with pliers. Unfortunately finances were very tight, then along came Frank (fmajor007). I had entered his GAW and was the lucky winner of a Mechanic! It's been in my pocket every day since I got it. Thanks Frank!!

Truth be told, my reason for getting is rather childish and silly

Use to have a SAK climber I got when I was 13 but lost it early 20s.
Eventually got a leatherman. However the Macgyver series started showing recently where I am, and reminded me how much my former SAK meant to me.

So here I am. :D the sak will relieve my leatherman weekends

Just got the OH Trekker and seems like a good knife. I do like the saw but wish it had a lock on the saw instead of the bottle opener. Took out a Russian Olive tree about 3" in diameter and the saw did very well.

Think less, act more! haha, get one, you'll be glad you did. Somebody mentioned a true knife nut has to have at least one SAK, couldn't be any truer words spoken on these boards.

I'm a big fan of the deluxe tinker and carry it all the time. I have the USA flag scales ('Merica). I will second bladechick's recommendation of the handyman as well, for a couple extra layers you add the metal saw, wood saw, chisel, and small flathead driver. Plus an ink pen. It's my goto kitchen sink model at the moment, truly a MacGyver knife.
