Been to the Post Office This Week?

I went to the PO to ship a knife out to a forumite (Knife Content!) yesterday. Because there is no air delivery of mail right now, there is no express shipping, and the 2-3 day Priority shipping is "all bets off". I had to present a driver's license just to get them to accept the package. All garbage cans are gone from the inside of the PO, and the mailboxes in the building are all plastic wrapped shut. The mailboxes in front of the building are gone altogether.

I had not been to the post office but I had heard that there had been a lot of changes. We got a notice from the post office that stated exactly what you said:
"No guarantee on anything getting there on time."

We also got word that nothing goes to DC and nothing goes past certain roads in NYC. Not surprising but makes the tragedy that much more real.

Was at my PO yesterday afternoon, no changes noticed there.
Everything seemed to be the same as always!

What is abnormal about that? - in London you hear people complaining that there are no Trash cans on the Underground/Metro service - they took them away because the IRA and others kept leaving bombs in them. Same thing goes for postboxes in times of threat.

I mailed a package yesterday. I didn't notice any changes. Also, all the Clerks know me pretty well at "my" local PO, so they know I'M one of the "good guys", and not a threat to anyone.
